I Can't Even Get A Friggin Application In On Time By A Deadline

Please God Kill Me Now

Breathe....

This is not worth "dying" or asking God to kill you over.

Everything will work it self out and in the end, you will end up where you need to be.

my head to the sky, feet on the ground...

Call them tomorrow and see what can be done. The time confusion has to be a common problem!

While submitting the Common Application, I thought I was so smart submitting the application two and a half hours before the deadline. It's funny because when I submitted my application... the first thing I thought of after seeing the "1/2" was..., "Wow, I'm so stupid..." My heart is sinking right now.

^^ I don't understand. What happened?

He/she was probably in the Pacific Time Zone and forgot to take into account that the Common App deadline stuff is all in Eastern Time.

I actually had no idea that was an issue until I read all these posts tonight. It's really stupid (that it's a problem).

yeah that's probably what happened. why can't more colleges be like UChicago?

Well, I suppose someone will have to remember to make a post next year reminding CCers that the Common App is on eastern time, not Pacific.

Then again, I remember I submitted my Common App an hour and a half past midnight (and I'm on the West Coast), and it was fine; the university still downloaded it the next day, etc.

I agree with the person who said to call each school first thing in the morning to explain if you have encountered a technical difficulty or a misunderstanding about the time zone difference.

The truth is, I have had students forget to send in important parts of an application before the deadline, including transcripts, recommendations, and test scores, and, with a phone call explaining the situation, most colleges have granted them a short grace period to rush the missing pieces in. Colleges don't immediately begin reading applications at the stroke of midnight - it usually takes them a few days to get all of the files organized and to make sure everything is complete. That doesn't mean you should ignore the deadline completely, but most colleges really are not mean ogres looking for ways to screw up applicants.

So, don't panic, don't assume, don't think the game is over, and most of all, don't get too down on yourself. Instead, call the schools involved, explain the situation in a calm and mature manner, and see what they say. If you can't call, email them. But don't delay on this - do it as soon as their office opens in the morning.

Good luck!
