Timezone problems. Really scared

I'm really scared right now.

It's 10:05PM 1/2/2010 here in California, but on the East Coast, it's 1:05 1/3/2010 and Cornell and Harvey Mudd's deadline is 1/2/2010. The common app submission says 1/3/2010!

I just submitted it, but I'm scared they won't accept it. Should I call them and explain to them I couldn't submit it before 9:00PM (I was on a road trip).

What am I going to do?

i’m pretty sure if you use the common app everything is in EST. check the commonapp FAQ.

I know, but what should I do?

OMG, I’m freaking out.

i submitted mine at 8 pm pacific time and it still said 1/3/10! what the heck!? it’s not even the next day on the east coast!

and don’t say the road trip thing, they’re gonna be like “you should have turned it in a month ago then.” trust me, that one rarely flies.

ooh i just checked another cc forum and they said you’re good, travfar, so no worries.
seriously, breathe :)

you’re fine for harvey mudd since they use pacific time. but for cornell, you’re more than an hour late. the deadline is based on their timezone.
don’t worry about what date common app says you submitted it, because they use eastern time too.
some places are nice and will be fine if you submitted it a little late.

@coldplay42, sorry, i don’t think he’s okay for cornell. harvey mudd, yes

Should I call the admissions office and ask at Cornell?

@IBscrewed, how about pomona?

Yes, you should call and/or email Cornell. It’s better than doing nothing.

if pomona’s deadline is jan 2, then you still have time to submit it because they use pacific time as well.

to travfar, honestly, they’ll probably be fine with it and accept your application but you could ask them just to be sure

How should I ask? Should I include my name and birthdate etc? Should I just say I didn’t realize the timezones were different?

nahh you probably don’t need to give them personal information since it’s a general question.
but in my opinion, saying the time zones are different is bad since it’s kind of common sense, at least to me (not to be offensive) and should definitely have been something a college-bound student would have thought about. plus, usually colleges specify that their deadline is EST or PST or whatever.
i would just not mention a reason and directly ask if they accept applications that were an hour late. my guess is that they do and you’re fine

No need to worry about being offensive, you’re right I should know about timezones. I just wanted my application to be perfect so I waited and forgot in my frenzy to do everything right.

I’m turning in all my other apps in like 10 days early now
