I am a high school senior with 45 transferable units

By the time I graduate from high school, I’ll have 45 transferable units. The units are from the courses that I took at college. Right now, I am enrolled in the college program as a senior. Is this a good start? I really want to get my GE done as soon as possible. If possible, I’d like to get it done in just one semester.

These are the questions you need to consider:

  1. Will your credits actually transfer to the college you attend?
  2. If they transfer, what requirements will they fulfill?
  3. What limits does your college place on using transfer credits to meet requirements? (For example, one of my university’s graduation requirements is 60 credit hours earned in residence.)

There’s no special benefit to fulfilling all of your general-education requirements right now (as opposed to fulfilling most of them and leaving some for later). I still have a couple of general-education classes to take, but I’m only taking classes in my major this semester.

The most important classes to “get done with” are the prerequisite classes for upper-level classes in your major. If you want to major in engineering, for example, it would be better to take a transferable calculus or physics class than a general-education class you could take at any time.
