In our info session in June we were told the SAT’s were superscored. Someone asked if ACT’s were too and the answer was NO.

Yes, as far as I know the ACT is NOT superscored. That’s how I’ve known it to be since I’ve been here, and I haven’t heard of any change.

SATII’s are the type of thing that won’t hurt you, if your student performs well there is absolutely zero reason to not send them.

The Paul Tulane Award is new this year, so we don’t have any statistics on it as of yet. Since it is a full tuition scholarship, it is obviously going to go to top tier applicants. The main difference is that the dean of admission will be selecting the winners (approx. 50). The Dean’s Honor winners are decided by the deans of the five undergraduate schools.

During my freshman and sophomore years, I had a 3.9 GPA, but last year, due to an outside factor, my GPA dropped significantly. If my GPA is higher for my senior year, will the my poor performance last year seriously impact my chances of getting in?
Or, I think the real question is, do they take a look at students as a whole, or just look at numbers?

They certainly look at the student as a whole, but the stats obviously matter also. However, if you can explain why the junior year grades were poor (assuming the reason is substantive rather than capricious), followed by strong first semester senior year grades, the impact of the poor grades should be lessened. Tulane wants good students, so it would be foolish to turn away someone that is obviously capable of excellent work who had a bad spell but appears to be on track for the long term.

I would also advise having personal contact with your admissions counselor. E-mail is fine, but if you could visit the campus and talk to them personally that is even better.

Hey Eliz. No, we do not just look at numbers. As fallenchemist said, I would start a dialogue with your admission counselor. Let them get to know you as a person, and I wouldn’t worry too much.

Owen, My D is finishing her app and will send it soon but wants to check that her transcript, scores and recommendations were received. What is the best way to do this. She has log-in credentials for the app but is this different than the Gibson log-in (which she does not yet have)? Fallenchemist, feel free to answer if you can help. thanks

I am not sure if the login for the app and Gibson are different, doesn’t hurt to try. Otherwise just have her click on the “forgot password” and they will send the login info. Then she can see if Gibson shows her app as complete or not. If it still shows things missing, she should email her specific admissions rep.

Hi Tulane Owen - My daughter and I saw you at the info session in Boston last month - great session. Tulane is my D #1. She has submitted her app (SCEA)and we are waiting for the GC to send her transcript and secondary school rpt. My D would like to submit 2 teacher recs. As Tulane does not require teacher recs, we were not sure how to proceed. GC said if the school is online (meanning that they accept apps online) the teacher just posts them through Edocs. My question is … how does Tulane know to look for these recs since they are not required?

deepthoughts–According to my admissions counselor, the Nov. SAT should come in time. you can ask them to hold your application until they get your SAT–but know that they wont review your application until it is complete, i.e., with some sort of score on file.

Hi Rydert,

These recommendations are easily assigned to a student’s file based on their name an high school. They are not required, but they will only help. Definitely send them in!

Hey Owen,

I am applying to Tulane this fall, as an international student from London. I have a couple of questions about Tulane as a college and about admissions:

Firstly, I know Tulane is on the Universal college app but as I am from an english school I don’t understand the information needed for midyear and final reports, especially as I do not have GPA or anything liek that? Who fills them out? and do you send them on the universal college app or post them seperately once they have been completed? Also, how does the university access our grades from A levels and GCSEs, do we email a transcript or something?

In terms of the university, the nightlife sounds amazing but I am concerned as to the diversity on campus. Is it true that most people are snobby and middle class? Or is this a generalization and there are plenty of people to hang out with that are down to earth and interesting?

Thanks for your time!

Hi Owen,

My son communicated with his admissions rep before she came to his school. There were 25 kids at the session so while he was able to ask some questions, he did not get to speak to her 1-on-1. I’ve suggested he send her a follow up email, ask if everything is ok with his application (it does show as ‘complete’ on Gibson), but he is REALLY reluctant to be too pushy or seem desperate.

How can I convince him that communicating is a good thing? Or is he right? I don’t want to push too much if he’s uncomfortable, but I also don’t want him to blow his chances for his #1 choice…

Hi, Owen,

We will be visiting Tulane on November 30. We signed up for the 2 pm info session/tour because I believe DS will want to sit in on a 10 am class (engineering). I have some ideas about what we can do in the middle, but it’s three hours. What would you suggest? What about after the info session? Anything special? (Note that we are making dinner plans with friends in the area so we won’t be on campus in the evening.) Thanks!

I’m with you, Mavitale. I think my DD should send a casual email to her rep just to let her know her interest, that her SAT scores went up significantly in October, and she received high honors first term, but she is also reluctant and doesn’t want to “bother” her admissions rep (Antoinette Abboud).

LINYMOM: You might just want to make a visit to the bookstore in the LBC and then grab some lunch there and do some people/student watching. That will be lunchtime so you know there will be plenty to observe. There is an area right out in front of the bookstore that would be perfect for that. You can also grab a Hullabaloo, the student newspaper, to read about what’s going on on campus. There is an area to sit outside that faces the LBC quad and if the weather is nice, that would be an option too.

I’m a sophomore here and I have no idea how to use the shuttles to get to Clearview mall. I just don’t understand it!

Please help.

Elric - go to [Tulane University - Tulane Shuttles](http://tulane.edu/studentaffairs/tom/transportation/shuttles-home.cfm) and click on the purple bus schedule. It only runs on Saturdays. It looks like you pick it up by the Law School.

how do i get to the law school?

It is next to the business school and the Navy ROTC building. Look at the Tulane Uptown campus map. But I am sure you pass it every day, you probably thought it was one of the business school buildings.

Hello Owen,

How should we expect to be notified of Tulane’s decision?

Thanks!
