I have a question about sporting events/school spirt??? Do people go to the games and always support teams such as Basketball, Soccer, and Volleyball. Sports are a very big deal to me so I was wondering what it was like at UCI. I don't want to know if they suck bc I know their basketball was okay and volleyball did awesome, I just want to know what is it like at a game.

Honestly, Ive never been to a game, but there are pictures of tons of people at the basketball games. Thats all I know, sorry man.

The basketball games are pretty fun. There's a special student section called the CIA (Completely Insane Anteaters). Everyone gets yellow t-shirts at the beginning of the year (they're free for students) and there is a great deal of energy from the students. The team is okay, but you'll never see them win anything major. Right now the dream is to just make it to the big dance (we've never made it before). Volleyball is really good (ranked #1 most of the year until losing to Penn State in the final four) as are other sports like Water Polo. We're decent at baseball, but I'd have to say that we've got the best baseball stadium this side of Omaha.

I remember when they filmed those videos. I was on the committee for the creation of them, and almost every student in the video was someone I recommended. I have a couple cameos in there myself. It's funny to see them a few years later.

oh speaking of which, how are the clubs at UCI? Do they also have competitions (academic, you nkwo like biology, chemistry, etc) liek they did at the high school level. because those kind of things are my fortes, and they always say you should stand out in college, and i've never been able to think of anything else

My personal experience with clubs has been grim. There are a number of clubs out there, but there seems to be only a few of them that are really serious about what they do Muslim Student Association, American Marketing Association/ABS (ask Ronnie, his name is Sonic One on this forum I believe), Board Club

As for competitions: well, there is a brain bowl type thing, but its really informal and not really club v. club. Honestly, I think you should start an interclub battle - thatd be pretty cool. If you want to stand out, just create a club and make is successful - that is the best way to be noticed in my opinion. You take the initiative, you lead it, and then you drive it to success - looks good to me man.

Basketball games are always fun. I went to as many as I could. No it's not going to be like PAC-10 basketball. The Bren seats 5,200 but I've never seen it get past about 4,000 in attendance at a game, usually smaller. Yeah our team isn't amazing but every once in a while they get a big win. Last year they beat Stanford (at Stanford) and this year they started out conference play 8-0. But before that they lost to TWO DII teams that should have been EASY wins. Then on the semifinals game at the Big West tournament they lost when a long beach state player made a falling out of bounds-hands in the face-three pointer at the buzzer that ended UCI's season. So basically UCI basketball this season has been a rollercoaster.

The fans can get pretty into it, especially when UCI having a good season, but some games there are much fewer people. It just depends. Here are a few pics:

This one I stole from espn.com or somewhere. This is from the game when UCI beat #13 at the time Stanford. Stanford went on to have a mediocre season but at the time it was a pretty big win for UCI bball:

These are a few pics that I took from a game last year (I can't remember who we were playing but this is a pretty good crowd for UCI bball):

UCI baseball games are fun too. Totally different atmosphere than basketball but the ballpark is brand new and they're adding on to it (or actually completing it). There's a good atmosphere for baseball. Also, we're kinda good at it--we might make postseason play this year depending on how the NCAA selection committee votes, but the Big West conference is an excellent baseball conference (probably the best in the country) so even when we're 3rd in the conference, behind perenial baseball powerhouses Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton (who won the national championship 2 years ago and is currently ranked #2 in the country), it's not that bad. Anyways, baseball games are fun.

UCI students, HELP!!!! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=196161

oh and also, are hte placement tests for chemistry hard? im taking that this saturday, and i want to place into the Honors program. i took AP chem this last year, and i should get a 4 on the test, but how hard do i need to study to guarantee entry into the honors program?

Ill speak to what Outono said and definitely start your own club if you feel that no one club can fit what you're wants and desires are. I founded or co-founded two of the business organization at UCI and I couldn't have been more proud of their progress. It's very fulfilling, provided me a learning experience, and I was able to craft the organization into something that fit my goals, of which I brought on board other students who shared my vision as well. The results speak for themselves when you look at how far we've come in terms of the progress of the business community (and the tangible statistics will be seen in just a few years when our business major finally arrives).

Does the housing at UCI have air conditioning? I really hate the heat, so I consider AC to be kind of important, heh.

btw, I'm a transfer student, so I'm either going to be in AV or CV.

I don't know for sure about AV or CV. If i had to guess, I'd say no since they don't have it for freshman housing.

Where do people hang out on campus - what are the hub spots?

I cant believe people are still using this. As far as I remember, yes, UCI housing does have air conditioning but the kids dont control it - I think the RA does - I could be wrong.

As for hanging out - Cornerstone Cafe is number 1, then the University Center (in n out, lees, etc...) and if not there its the beach.

NOPE!, no AC !, well at least in middle earth, cuz i remember asking the RA that gave me a housing tour a month ago. She tried to steer around my question by saying that "just crack open the windows and the beach breeze will keep you cool".

There's not AC.
