Hi. First off, thank you for considering to reply to this post. I appreciate even this kind of action. Well, uh like the title says, I am going into junior year and I really really really want to get into UCLA for Psychology or Philosophy. My stats aren't too great so far, but I want to know what I can do junior year to be able to redeem myself.
First off, I moved high schools during the middle of my sophomore year and I am going through some potential domestic issues (not all of it involves me being abused) at home and may transfer one more time/ move high schools.
My wgpa after retaking a class over summer school sophomore year is a 3.47 non-weighted being around a 3.3.
I did IB
I already have 400 plus community service hours mostly at one place and will have about 1000 by the end of senior year.
My SAT score will most likely be around 2190 to 2250 by the end of junior year (currently slightly above the 2000 mark).
Taking Korean SAT and will probably get 750 plus
Taking US history SAT and will also get something around 750 plus (currently at 680 and I am taking APUSH this year)
Writing a book manuscript
Will have a job
Former Junior Lifeguard
Played Varsity Golf Freshman year (technically)
I have some alumni and relatives who currently attend UCLA
California Resident
Male Asian
Moved around Los Angeles area about 7 times and may do it for an 8th time
Overcame depression at a young age
IQ 148
Got out of gang violence
Possibly making a club
Next years classes
APUSH W
APLANG W
APSTATS W
CHEMH W
Psychology NW
Spanish 3 NW
Projected number of APs in high school is 9
Yeah that's me so far. Please give me suggestions on how I can improve junior year in order to get into UCLA
My backup colleges are as follows
USC
UCSD
UCI
UCSB
SDSU
UTA
CSULA
My goal for Junior year (Which I doubt I can do but will try) is get straight As. If I do that my wgpa goes up to a 4.2

You can improve by getting a good SAT score and getting straight As. Both of those things are necessary.

By the way, colleges don’t care about your IQ and neither do we ;)

^Agree with all of that. You can have a strong shot at UCLA by greatly improving your GPA next year.

Good luck! :)

You need to get straight A’s. Anything less and your chances will be very very slim

Thank you all. But addition to straight as is there anything else i can do? And what do my odds look like for the other colleges on my list?

good question. my son is in a very similar situation. i think all the schools will be out (unless you get 5/6 As (1 B); 2250 min. on SAT?) except: UCSB, SDSU, UTA (?), CSULA

We are considering CPSLO.
I guess there’s also a transfer opportunity, if all goes well?
