I am confused about need-blind and non-need-blind

My thoughts:
Need blind means that the college will accept one if he/she is good enough, regardless of his/her financial background and nationality. So, if the college accepts him/her, it will grant an aid package to him/her at the college's discretion. The package may not offer enough aid in the applicant's perspective.

non-need-blind for internationals: suppose the applicant is an international student. The college will either accept him/her and offer him/her an aid package or reject him/her right away, even though he/she is a great candidate if he/she is a domestic student. It is impossible to accept the applicant without giving him/her a penny if the applicant does demonstrate needs. The admission for international students is much harder then that of the need-blind schools if all the colleges are at the same academic level.

Am I right? If I am right, then should I be afraid of applying to schools like Stanford/Columbia if I do consider applying to ivies?

Need blind simply means that your application for admission is reviewed WITHOUT consideration of your financial ability to pay or financial status. The amount of money the school will award depends on the policies of that particular school. Some award better packages than others.

If a school is NOT need blind, it could consider your ability to pay when making an admissions decision. Remember, for international students…you MUST be able to sign a form demonstrating that you HAVE enough funds to cover your full year in this country to study or you will NOT be granted a student visa to study here. This can include financial aid.

BUT if a school is not need blind and they therefore consider finances in admissions…it seems to me that they are more likely to accept students who CAN pay than those who cannot. Just my opinion.

Are Stanford and Columbia need blind for admissions for international students? I thought they were. Check their websites to see for sure. I’m sure someone else here will know and reply.

Stanford and Columbia are not need blind. I have Canadian passport then do I need a student visa??

Need blind is to do with admissions, not to do with how much aid a school will award. It means they do not consider your need when they decide whether to admit you or not. It doe not mean they will meet full need if they admit you.

Some schools are need blind and do promise to meet full need.

A lot of schools are need blind - for instance most public State Universities do not consider need at all when they decide whether to admit a student. But they do not promise to meet full need so a student may be admitted but not get sufficient aid to be able to attend.
