I Am in McCombs (UT Austin's business school). Should I Switch into Economics?

Hello all,

First off, I know there have been some similar threads, but I'd like some more insight pertaining to my situation, thank you for your time. I am currently an undergrad freshman at McCombs, and frankly (for several personal reasons) I don't think I am the business type. I know McCombs is highly regarded as one of the best business schools in the nation, but is having an economics degree really that much worse off than graduating with a BBA? I really enjoy economics, but almost everybody I asked has told me that I'd be stupid to drop out of the business school for economics. Aside from majoring in economics, I am also considering minoring in mathematics, and Spanish or French. What are job prospects and salary like with a BBA compared to an economics degree? Also, what are the pros/cons of choosing business over economics (and vice versa)? I apologize for all the questions.

Thank you.

You will probably come to miss the career center for McCombs, but I think you’d be fine if you do well in Econ. Especially since you like or at least want to take a math minor…go for the business economics option and minor in math. The business econ option at UT requires both principle accounting classes and three finance courses that are at least junior level.
