Update: researching examples for the essay portion. I will also do two CR and math sections in an hr or two.

Quick little update: it appears that I’m basically going down hill. For math, I’m basically back to square 1. Yes, I know more information and I know how to approach the questions, however, I seem to be getting more easier of the questions wrong. I got 16 questions wrong out of 24 in CR which I think is the most that I’ve gotten wrong ever, so things are not looking that good. Don’t know what happened. But, still going to continue to study and hopefully turn things around.

Has anyone experienced this? A point where they’ve just gone downhill and feel as if they’re missing that mental edge that they had? Or maybe I’m just worrying to much about this. Any info would be useful.

Master2018, I’ve been having that kind of issue lately. I’d say the last month or so has been like that for me. I just took two sections of practice test 1 from Gruber’s math guide and my results were horrid. 1st section I missed 8/20. 2nd section, which included student response, I missed 4/8student response questions and missed zero questions 1-8. As much as I want to throw my book against the wall, I think more about my future. All of this hard work, and still no improvement for me. In everyone eye’s I’m capable of so much, but I cannot seem to perfect this test. I guess I need more practice. Don’t lose hope master2018. Our journey continues! I’m going to read pages 1-320ish in blue book. I believe they cover reading, writing, math. I may only do the math tonight, as I have a few exams tomorrow that I need to study for. I also need to redevelop solid, universal examples for the essay portion. I have two in mind, but I’m still searching for the third.

Im glad ur still going. So am i, i scored a 1500 and am aiming for above 2000+ If you dont mind can you explain how you got ur writing up so fast?

Maybeitstrue: I looked over sparknotes 7 deadly errors and read silverturtle’s guide. I read both very thoroughly, and then did a few practice sections.
For the essay, I looked at how to get a 12 in 10 days, but I didn’t follow this. My essay was decent when I first started practicing. I followed the organization structure of: thesis, opposition, example1, example2, example3, and conclusion. Nowadays, I don’t even use this structure. I use a similar one, but without the opposition. I think I may start writing with my old structure, and look more at the MC. My scores have dropped lately from 780-800 to 680-720 because I haven’t looked at writing mc stuff in 4-5 months. I never really practiced writing.

Thanks for your writing tip. And you didn’t do that bad on the grid-in section for math. Your score was 12/16 which I would say is pretty decent. Obviously, it’s not what you want, but it’s decent.

Today, I’m going to look over the refresher section in Gruber’s and then going to take a practice test. Do some writing practice and memorize some vocab and call it a day.

“Stay hungry, stay foolish.” - Steve Jobs

I love Steve Jobs! I’m actually going to sleep for a few hours lol. I rarely get more than 4 hours of sleep a night, so I’m usually exhausted. After I wake up, I will read Gruber’s, read the tips in dr. Chungstake, and take an entire CR and Math test. I’ll wrap it up by reading Direct hits and researching essay examples. Hopefully I’ll also have time to finish my school work and read more of “A Prayer For Owen Meany.”

Update: I read 6 of the 50 tips. The questions are definitely more abstract than any other prep book I’ve seen so far. I didn’t do any Gruber’s, I was not able to do math and CR tests, and I didn’t get a chance to research essay examples. I did, however, finish ap Calc homework, ap lit homework, and read some direct hits. I think I’m gonna call it a night. I’ll be up bright and early tomorrow, and will hopefully work diligently. I have to go to a meeting for key club from 9:30-1:30 pm though. So, I’ll be back around 2! Tomorrow I will probably do an entire test in chunks, and work on CR, M, and the essay more. I think I’ll work especially more towards Math, as I’ve heard it’s easier to raise after getting the techniques down. I’m still hovering around 560-600. I will also try to finish direct hits v1

Well, I decided to back off of math for today and come back to it tomorrow as I’m just not making any progress and kind of loosing focus on it. I just hate CR so didn’t do that either. However, I did do W and made some serious gains on it. I followed Haphazard’s advice but tweaked it a bit to suit my situation. I read the 7 deadly W tips on Sparknotes and they were really useful. I really found reading out loud to be very beneficial as it allowed me to stay focused on the content. I did not read silverturtle’s guide for W but I did do the practice questions and read the explanations for every question that I got wrong and tried to understand why it was wrong. I read Cracking the Writing section in Princeton Review’s Cracking the SAT 2009 edition book and it was basically the same information as Sparknotes but I went through it just to do it. I took 2 PR W practice exams and got a raw score of 39 the first time and 40 the second time. Last time I did W was in June and I believe I was in the mid 20’s so I am really impressed with these gains and this is just after studying for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Also, if I give myself an essay grade of 8 (which is what I usually get) it puts me in the low 600’s.

I’m going to take 1 or 2 W tests from CB’s official SAT’s and see where I really am. Going to also read how to get a 12 in 10 days and start applying that. Also going to do some math review and take a Gruber’s math practice exam. I’m going to read some guides on CR and then take 2 practice tests in PR and see what I can do but by far I hate CR the most, but I’m going to start loving it if I want to good.

I just finished a practice test. I’ll grade it in a bit and post the scores. I don’t think I did too well, as I ran out of time a few times. Eh :\ . I’m planning to read some Gruber’s and finish direct hits afterwards.

Well, I got nothing done except for W. I took 3 official SAT practice tests and the first two times I got in the high 20’s which I was very disappointed about. Learned from my mistakes however, and on the last test got a 36 which is closer to what I got yesterday on the PR tests. Could have been higher if I didn’t make some silly mistakes but it’s satisfying to see that my studying is paying off. So some general advice I guess: expect lower grades if you practice with PR.

Will start M and CR again tomorrow and do 1 more W test tomorrow as well.

At least you are improving master2018. By the way, are you a senior?

Update: score breakdown: Cr-630, M-630, W-740(assuming I got a 6 on my essay) for a total of 1970. I’m still not breaking 2000. I’m sort of disappointed. I plan on finishing homework, then reviewing my mistakes. I’m going to try to fit in some Gruber’s and direct hits.

Yes, I am a rising senior. You?

And damn, that’s a great score.

Yep, I’m a senior lol. School started two weeks ago for me. Nah, the score is pretty bad. I really need to improve my Math and CR scores. I won’t get in anywhere with a 1330/1600 CR + Math lol.

It’s not that bad but I see your point. I won’t really be satisfied unless the first digit is 2.

“Tough times never last, but tough people do.” ~ Robert H. Schuller

Exactly! It’s frustrating that I’m not even breaking 2000 yet. I only have a month left, and with school and extra curriculars, it’s going to be difficult to try to fit in several hours of SAT prep.

I guess I’ll start posting in this thread too :)

Yeah, I’m starting to think about that as well now and I guess the most important thing to note is that it’s a one time deal now. You take it and you’re done. So just have to stay motivated and continue to work hard cause in the end it will pay off. Maybe it won’t pay off right then and there, maybe it’ll take a week or so, but it will pay off.

Definitely, but the scary part is how much this actually matters. Although many people say that the SAT is one of many factors, the SAT is used as a sift in the admissions process. One will be weeded out if one has a 1600 overall score and the average applicant pool consists of kids who have 2100+ scores. Well, I guess we will have to keep a optimistic mindset master2018. It also appears that many of the other people have become either inactive on CC, or deeply engrossed in their preparation.

Have been doing a lot of chemistry lately, going into honors chem next year and and I want to be ready so I have been studying in advance. Lots of math as well, starting to understand a lot of the concepts and, fortunately, I have been scoring fairly well.

Question: Does anyone here use ********? Just curious about what others think of the program and whether it’s beneficial or not.

Anyways, I have been doing quite a few words as well but only have around 115 of the 1000 Most Common Words on SATs from SparkNotes. I heard the list was basically the same as the Kaplan SAT words list so I’m giving it a go! Hoping to see an improvement in my CR section, haven’t been doing so well on that.
