I am not a statistic: Pursuit to break 2100.

Thanks for the motivation jaefosho. Well guys, I just finished reviewing most of the practice test from last Sunday. I think that I over think in CR a lot. I usually narrow the choices down to two. I have sort of an intuition for the answer, but I usually go with the opposite answer because I feel as if my intuition may be wrong because it seems too obvious at times. I have two sections to review, which I’ll definitely finish up tomorrow. I also read a bit of direct hits, so today wasn’t extremely wasteful. I still haven’t started on college apps, which is really starting to worry me. I finished a majority of my homework. I just didn’t study for ap lit, which I have a test in tomorrow. I also didn’t read any ap bio. I’m too tired to even concentrate, so I think I’ll try to wake up an hour before I usually wake up and cram haha.

Hey what do u guys do when u run out of BB tests? review questions that you did wrong???
2) what score would be the most accurate when given a range of possible scores from a BB test? I’d like to think I got high, but then there is the lower part of that score range…

Also haphazard I am in the same boat as you. 1 month left till my last SAT, need 2100+ and am a senior as well. let’s go, got to work harder!!!
edit: i also have an AP lit test tomorrow too! :)

What a coincidence!

Chilly penguin, Have you already read through the entire blue book? Not just the tests, but the entire book? Yeah, I didn’t study for AP Lit, but I think I still aced the test today. I probably made a 100. I just got home, but I need to go to back to school for extra curriculars, so I’ll be back later. I have to study for ap bio today, finish Calc, and do some virtual class homework. Afterwards, I’ll be able to allocate the rest of the time to SAT prep. I want to finish reviewing my mistakes and hopefully do a few math and CR sections.

Got through 5 sections of CR, 2 sections of math, and 1 section of W. Long story short, no major improvement on CR although I kind of feel as if I have a better idea of how to attack the questions and what I should be looking for. Math, I’m really disappointed about. I went too quickly through the questions and basically wasn’t focused on where I was in the section. I’m kicking myself right now cause all of the questions I got wrong were careless errors. I think I knew the test was too easy (PR book), so I never got myself in the mentality that I need to pay attention to what I’m doing. Writing wasn’t the greatest either; 23/35. But I still have to take the other section so the max I can get is 42/49 which I would say is pretty good.

Tomorrow, hopefully will be better. Plan is to memorize words, do 6 sections of CR, 1 section of M and W and then take a practice test from the BB.

Hey guys I didn’t accomplish much today, just lots of other homework.

Hang in there, I’m sending good vibes your way!

LM2013, I’ll check that out later. I finished a timed 18 question math section. I missed 3 and accidentally skipped 1. I did pretty bad. Afterwards, I read chapter 14,15,16, parts of 17 (I need to go back and read thoroughly), and I did the sample questions in chapter 19 of the blue book. I still have a lot of homework to finish. I’ve noticed that most of the Math isn’t bad; however, I tend to over think it logically, or make a careless mistake. I’m usually pretty nervous when I’m taking full length practice tests. I think the best thing for me would be to finish reading the math chapters in the blue book, and expose myself to as many SAT math questions as possible. I may start utilizing Dr. Chung’s. The $27 book should help me out if I’m able to use it properly. I think if I’d stop making mistakes on medium level questions, then I can maybe go up to 650ish. As far as CR goes, I’ve done nothing in the last three days. I’ll see if I can cram in a little DH later on tonight. I’m pretty exhausted and have a lot of homework, so I’m unsure.

I did lots of words today, solely using the SparkNotes 1000 Most Common Words on the SAT’s. I have around 150 words total right now, only about 10 of them I don’t have fully memorized. At latest, I plan on finishing the 1000 words by October or November. Then I will move onto the Direct Hits Toughest Vocabulary on the SAT’s. I’ve heard that is very helpful and only has around 250-300 words so I’ll be sure to finish that by December/January if I start October.

As for the Math section, not been doing much lately but I have definitely identified my strengths and weaknesses. I tend to mess up most on graphing and geometry questions. I know the concepts but simply can’t apply them in those situations…really frustrating but I’ll keep working on that. If I can get around 700 on the math section, I would be extremely proud! It will be tough but I will try my hardest and hope for the best :D

Wow 5am6996, You’re doing really good. Unfortunately, I won’t be doing anything else for the night besides sleeping. I just finished AP Bio homework, but I still have to read. I don’t think I’ll read for Bio tonight, as I can barely concentrate. I may not be able to do much tomorrow either. I have an AP Bio test Friday that covers chapters 1-6. The teacher has only lectured to chapter 3, so I’m pretty nervous. I may have to cram for Bio and physics tomorrow, along with virtual class work that I have to finish. I’ll be lucky if I do any SAT stuff tomorrow. I’m definitely dedicating numerous hours to SAT prep and college apps this weekend. We have a three day weekend due to labor day! I kind of wish that I could do more SAT prep, but I physically can’t stay awake. I managed to average 3-4 hours of sleep last year dude to my course load, but I’m unable to do that this year. I average 5-6 hours of sleep this year.

day update:
think i bombed AP calc quiz. life goes on

did some kaplan math, reviewing gov now and hoping to squeeze in some more math later on.

Chilly penguin, I have a thread for Calc. If you need help, post on there. I’ll help you out. I’m probably going to fail my AP Bio test tomorrow, which I definitely can’t afford, so I’ll be studying for that. I just got back from school. September is going to be a crazy month. I have to finish my virtual class work, then study for AP Bio. My test covers like 5 chapters and 3 labs, so I highly doubt that I’ll get to SAT stuff tonight.

Haphazard thanks a lot! I will be doing 2 math sections tomorrow, along with 1 writing section. I’ve heard a lot of people say that if you just look over some grammar rules, your score can jump from a 500-600. I did terrible on my writing section before so I hope it goes better this time! What did you guys do to improve the writing section?

5am6996, look at post 65 for the tips and my experience with the tips on 69.

I’m not sure what post number, but somewhere I described how I jumped 240 points in a day or two.

@5AM: you can EASILY improve your writing.
The first sat I took last year i missed 3 and got a 700, all with just some workbook practice. I’d recommend barron’s. The questions get only so far, so just a lot of practice will help you understand which concepts you really struggle with.

keep it up guys. I’m really hoping writing and math will keep me going this sat in one month. sighs.

@haphazard: thanks for the thread about AP calc, i’m subbed to it now. Hopefully I can get my **** grade up.

Thanks a lot guys, I’m looking at Silverturtle’s guide now and will start practicing a lot of the writing sections!
Btw, realistically, if I’m scoring around 1700 right now, how long do you guys think it will take to break 2000? I’m going into my junior year now and I’m really hoping to break 2000 by the January SAT’s!

Update: after a tiring, arduous, bad day, I am finally home. I have physics and calculus homework. I’ll probably finish these two in an hour or two. I’m going to take a practice section of math and reading, read some DHits, and finish reviewing mistakes. I’ll update again after I’m finished with everything.

I did the practice BB test today and only managed to get through the M and W sections without loosing focus. I did take 1 of the CR sections as well and did pretty horrible on it; 9/24. I should have just stopped cause I kind of started to loose focus while answering the questions for the long passage-based questions. Overall, no big improvement. 40 raw for M which was already my peak, and 35 for W. However, I did almost get every question right on the last math section; 15/16.

Going to finish the test tomorrow, review my mistakes, and analyze some of the patterns that I’ve noticed. Also going to try to find more tests as I’m running out.

Did more words today, I think I have reached around 170. Going to take a break from words and continue onto writing. Read a lot of Silverturtles guide too, some very helpful tips in there! Planning to start writing by Tuesday if not sooner.

Hey guys, I’ve had tests so not much progress… Just general stressing about how if I don’t pull my math score up 170 points (at least) I won’t get in anywhere I’d like to attend… Still happy about my CR score estimate though, that’s pretty good footing to start from these next few months. I really hope once schools starts up again the math stuff we review will somewhat relate to the SAT. Do you guys know how much algebra you review/use in precalc? Obviously I need to learn the geometry independently (or is that part of precalc too? I honestly have no idea what you do in that class…), but I think just regularly thinking and learning in a logical and math oriented way will improve my score.

5am- I think it depends on how quickly you internalize concepts and how often and intently you work. It seems like a very possible goal to me! Really I wouldn’t worry too much because you can take it in May/June, but I actually think it’s clever to plan on it in January because it forces you to work. Congrats on being proactive!

I have some CR tips if you guys care to listen (someone pmed me and surprisingly I was able to verbalize what I do). I didn’t do all that well on it, but if you’re interested I’d be happy to copy and paste it here.

My plan- starting next week (I’ll unfortunately be writing papers all weekend) watch more math video and finish the PR math section.
