DRASTIC score increase?

Hey guys, I'm a rising senior in high school. So far, I've taken the SAT twice. First try (May) I got a 1600. No study/preparation before that. Then I studied from the SAT prep book to prepare for the second take (June), and I got an 1800. I plan to take the SAT one more time in October.

I don't wanna take it more than three times, as that may not look good to colleges, so I'm really trying focus on this October test. Considering that I jumped from 1600 to 1800 in one month, do you think I can increase to even 2100 or so by October?

What do I do to increase my score?

Anyone with similar experience and helpful advice?

Thanks!

It is possible but difficult. It took me a while to get to a 1900 to 2100+. But that was during the school year. You should start studying/practicing now , if you already have not started.

Perfection is only achieved through practice. Look at silverturtle’s SAT Guide if you want to learn more on how to raise your score. He has an amazing Grammar section. even though I am done with the SAT’s I read through it and have not missed a Writing question ever since. I wish it had come out before June.Sorry to digress.

Thanks, very helpful, and yeah I will look into that.

Going from 1600 to 2100 is very rare…have you taken the ACT yet?

Yeah, I understand it’s pretty rare, but I’m dog determined.

I didn’t study for the first take, and I didn’t even try hard. For the second take, I studied only the night before the test, and I got a 200-point boost. I’m hoping that if I start studying now, I can do well on the third take.

No, I haven’t taken the ACT. Some say I should; some say it’s not really necessary if you’re taking the SAT. I haven’t really thought about taking it, but I might give it a go sometime after the school years starts.

I guess when people give the exam the first time, they are usually quite nervous. They tend to waste time going over silly things. So usually when its given more than once the scores tend to improve.

But yeah, you are right, I dont think you should take the test more than 3 times. If you get around 2100, that would help you enough to improve your chances of admission into a decent college.

Best of luck for the October exam.

What is your score breakdown? Are the sections about equal for you, or are you much better at Math, CR, or Writing?

I think it’s possible. If you haven’t finished all the tests in the Blue Book, make sure you do so before the test date. Get your hands on as many practice tests as you can after that, and just keep doing them every week. Memorize the words in Direct Hits and look into Gruber’s Math Workbook if your math score is weak.

Um, let’s see. It’s around this. It’s not exact, but each section here would be only about 10 points off from the real thing.

1st time
M:500
CR:500
W:600

2nd time
M:600
CR:500
W:700

As you can see, I’m struggling in CR. Fairly strong in W. And I guess it’s just a matter of me improving my test-taking skills in the M part. But yeah, I’ll go take a look at Gruber’s math book and see if that’ll help any. Thanks!
