erkybk: I thought you already went to St Marks?? Are you trying to change schools? If yes, why? It is a school we are considering so I am curious to know why you are trying to get in somewhere else.

cdnhockeymom, the OP dates from last year. hpfan bumped it up in post #14.

Do you know these schools admit an overage %? They generally admit OVER the admit amount the school it looking to fill every year? It cuts down the Waitlist chances even more.
The elephant in the room.

I was wait listed at Hotchkiss too. And Andover. And Middlesex. So that's almost four!

Cdnhockeymom - I am curious - was your S/D planning to play scholastic hockey? From one cdn to another, I was waitlisted at 2 schools and rejected by one.

Its depressing.

I was waitlisted by 2 schools but got accepted by one. What do you guys do when being waitlisted? We should send supplement materials or just wait till April?

i was waitlisted by 6. haha
sps deerfield lawrenceville middlesex cate andover

but i'm on the top of lawrenceville's waitlist.. hopefully ill get in

gah so many waitlists~!

Lawrenceville tells everyone they are on top lol.

wait what!? they told me i would be one of the first few to be offered admission... i highly doubt they tell every single person on the waitlist that, it would cause outrage

did you get the same message?

Yes lol. and I also have a bit of an advantage on the waitlist which I'll pm you with.

Periwinkle: thanks for pointing that out, I missed it...
WAS: My S is planning to play hockey and he was accepted at 3 schools and waitlisted at 2 (due to FA). We were told that the amount of money available for FA this year is much less than last year. If money becomes available he will be taken off of the waitlist.

& the wait goes on......

I'm so nervous!!
I want to go to Deerfield more than anything for next year, but have to wait & see.

I was rejected at some schools because the combination of:
-needing a hefty amount of f/a.
-applying as a 5th former
-&& i keep lying to myself about this, but i JUST wasn't good enough lols

Heyy, you can't say that you weren't good enough.

IT'S THEIR LOSS!! NOT YOURS!! :) Believe me.

I was wait listed at Groton and St. Georges
But i was accepted at Middlesex, St,Marks and Brooks.
Out of middlesex and st marks anyone have any opinions to help me choose where i'm going to go nect year????

Academically St. Mark's and Midllesex are better than Brooks. Between MX and SMS, there are pros and cons. MX is more preppy and SMS is on upward trend in everything.
Last year, My D was accepted at Middlesex(MX), St. Marks(SMS), and Taft. We choose St. Mark's over the other two for two reasons: 1) It is closer to our house 2) Our relative whose son went to middlesex did not recommend MX to us because they were not happy with the teachers. We really enjoy St. Mark's and we are so happy with SMS.
compare SMS and MX at the following site.

If you are in at your top choice and the $$ works, please accept, and let the other schools know as soon as possible.

The likelihood of getting off a an individual's school waitlist is specific to the school. If you call and politely ask about the situation, the admission people will talk to you.

If you would really like to lobby to get off of a specific wait list, don't stalk/torture the admission people. The student (not the parent) should send a very nice letter, expressing your interest, and identifying three new reasons that they should be interested in you: recent award, GPA changes, etc.

Grow where you are planted - you will most likely come to love any of these schools. They are all very good.

I got into St. paul's
but i was waitlisted at hotchkiss
where to go?????????? HELP ME!!!!!!!!

.. St. Paul's?

Honestly Erkybk; slow down with foisting St. Mark's on everyone...it's really unfair and to the students who are seriously trying to make informed choices. To say that MDX doesn't have great teachers is insulting and absurd, they have some absolutely amazing teachers! The English department is particularly strong, as is the History dept, as is Art History. (sorry, I just don't know much about the science or math dept.). MDX more preppy than St. Marks's? What on earth is this comment based on? As someone with close immediate relatives who have gone through all three schools recently (& of course, their friends), I really have to object to broad generalizations such as "the preppiness of MDX" versus St. Mark's being on the "Upswing in Everything"...what are these ridiculous comments based on ....hot air?
