I am preparing for the English Literature Subject Test

Hey,

I gave the SAT Reasoning Test on June 05th 2010, and got 2280 (M: 780, CR: 770, W: 730), and I have registered for the English Literature Subject Test on 09th October 2010.

I am using Kaplan's book, the 2010-11 edition, mainly because I had used their book for the SAT Reasoning Test too and had loved it. I have finished going through the "explanation" part (very helpful for me, since I'm an international student and was unfamiliar with a lot of the terminology). I have also taken a couple of practise tests uptil now and got 780/800 on the last one I took.

So, what I want to know is...

Am I on track for getting a good score in the actual test (just 45 days to go!)?

What is the level of these Kaplan tests, compared to the actual CB test?

How can I finetune my knowledge and ensure the perfect 800?

Do you know of any site/link where I can access free prep material? Even official CB tests would be great since I want to know their level.

Thanks in advance!

You sound like you’re in perfect shape to me.

I used Kaplan and got 720-750 on all my practices, with 770 on the actual test. One thing I noticed was that Kaplan had a lot of questions on literary terms (like, “What rhetorical strategy is used in lines 30-32?”) whereas on the actual test, I had literally zero of those questions. I spent so much time memorizing the terms and they were useless-- I don’t know if the May 2010 test was just an oddity, or if there really are no literary terms on the test, ever.

Keep doing practices. This is a hard test to study for, practicing is the only thing you can really do.

Go to ‘Practice Now’

Thank you very much for your help! Cleared quite a few things, and that point on too many literary terms in the Kaplan tests seems vital.

Although, I have already taken all the practice questions in the CollegeBoard site. I wanted a full-length practice test. Any idea where I can find one?

^ In the Official Subject Tests Book.

I have just 1 month to go for the exam now… and I’ve already got the Kaplan books for English Literature and Math Level 2. They have 8 and 4 practise tests respectively.

How many tests does this book have? Do you think, that given my situation (as outlined in the 1st post), I need this book?

Also, any way I could find this book, or some of its practise tests (the ones I want), umm, online?
