Hey guys
I just wanted to reach out to you all so that I can get rid of my feelings.
Alright so I am a student from India and I applied to 6 universities in the US and got rejected from all of them. I took the SAT 3 times and my super-score was around 1700. Then, I decided to take my ACT exam and got a 23. I am out of high school now and going to BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus to pursue Computer Science Engineering. However, I don't want to.
I secured 84% marks in my 12th class Examination. I just want to say that none of these standardized tests are my piece of cake. I am unable to do well in them despite taking countless tests and completing countless books. It really frustrates me, that I am going to college and I am still taking these tests and I am far away from the other application process.
I mean, I have tried every single time to do better, I always failed. Whether it's the SAT or the ACT. I am unable to improve. I mean, I always considered myself an average student with potential but all this makes me feel miserable and highly demotivated to give it another shot. All my SAT scores were differing by 10-30 points in either of the sections.

My brother graduated from USC and even I want to go there. It's what motivated me. But, I studied for these tests the whole year and I could never prove myself. I never gave up but I feel that my level is just really low to even do good on these tests. I really want to get into a good university in USA but all my confidence is flushed and I just feel miserable regarding this every single day.

Honestly, the SAT and ACT are NOT IN ANY WAY a measure of your worth…or even of your intelligence, for that matter! They test you on how to take a test, pure and simple. 1700 is still a fine score, and you can get into some high quality schools with that.

And DON’T compare yourself to your brother or to anyone else. Wherever you go to school, as long as you make the most of it there, you’ll be fine in life; and hey, even if you don’t go to a top-notch college for your undergrad studies, you could still get into a kickass grad program!

Bottom line, it’s all going to be alright. I promise :)

Let me throw out some schools for you to research: NC State, Queens College, Loyola, U of Tampa, Syracuse, Penn State Lehigh Valley or Brandywine…

All fine schools, and perhaps one of them is a perfect match for you!

(Also, visit some college match websites online, like CC’s Supermatch; it really does give excellent suggestions based on what you input.)

Thanks a lot for that!
Man, still. These tests were one of the most depressing times I had. I just can’t manage them. I am only allowed to go to US all the way if I get into UCs, USCs or any other equivalent schools. Now, we all know how competitive those are and what the stats show. If I could just get a solution on how I can beat these tests once and for all, my motivation can be back on track and so can be my head. Thanks again for your support. My brother says that NC State is pretty good.

You know even many local students cannot get into college here in the US. You may try some community colleges that accept international students first. After a year or two, you may then transfer to other colleges or universities. With your current scores, this may be the best bet for you if you really want to study here.
