Hey! I REALLY wanted to know what my chances are of getting into college!!! i study in India and am in my last year of high school. Well, I kind of messed up my grade 11 because my parents were going through a divorce trial and my mom had tried to commit suicide. Right now they are still trying to work things out so I'm hopeful! Anyways so the point is that my percentage dropped A LOT.
In grade 10 I got 89.6% and in grade 11 I got a 65%.......So should I mention the reason in my essays?
I also took the SAT and I have to admit that I didn't study for it. So for my first attempt I got a 1750 and I am planning to take it again.
I also play basketball but the level in India is pretty low, especially for girls. I played at the national level in grade 7 and in grade 11 & 12 i have been actively participating in national level tournaments. I was even the captain of my school team at the national level.
As for extra curricular activities I am a good singer. i participate in all choir competitions and recently participated in a duet and solo performance at my school. I am also the lead singer of my school band.
I live in nigeria and so since my holidays are on, I am currently doing an unpaid internship at a bank here. I have also volunteered in helping the underprivileged children of nigeria.
So what do you think my chances are of getting into a top college in the US ??!!

Hello Harry!
Are you from Punjab? PM me if you are.
Which Unis do you want to apply to? What about finances?
Retake the SAT.
I am really sorry about whatever you have been through, I totally understand your predicament.
Show the adcoms how your terrible experiences have strengthened you.
BEST OF LUCK!!

Firstly, you need to give the SAT again. Even students scoring 2400 are sometimes rejected from the Ivies or MIT. The thing they lack is an improper essay and self evaluation.
No one can predict your chances of getting into a top US college, you can only try. Try as much as you can. Your family circumstances seem worst. Writing about it would be a plus point I guess.

“the thing they lack is an improper essay” lol, indeed.
