My D has been admitted to Fordham and has accepted her offer of admission. Despite the awful rain on Springfest weekend (the Nor'easter), she had an Epiphany about Fordham and accepted. She turned down several other lucrative and prestigious offers. We are OOS. I am pleased that Fordham finally "gets it" about recruiting out of state, because that is the fastest way to get the word out, to increase the applicant pool and to recruit the best and brightest students who would otherwise go elsewhere.

It also improves diversity substantially. Then as employers get the word on Fordham graduates, it grows exponentially.

Now if they could only improve their basketball and football records......

But we are very grateful to be admitted and very, very happy to call ourselves a Fordham family from Dixie!

We look forward to seeing y'all there on campus and good luck to those on the wait list. Its worth the wait, from what we can see.

I'm thrilled that you posted this. I am just as excited about my D's decision to attend Fordham in the fall. We are also from out of state, thrilled to be admitted and call Fordham family from MD.

I am realizing that Fordham's popularity is increasing astronomically by the day. When I applied to Fordham nearly two years back, I never saw threads related to Fordham on CC. You should be proud of your kids for them having worked hard to go where they are going and I assure you that the quality of education that they will receive will be second to none. I am just upset that my brother got wait-listed and he may not be able to go to Fordham this year (he had really good grades 93 GPA and 1850 on SAT), so I am assuming Fordham is really getting serious about increasing their selectivity. Once again, congratulations and good luck to your kids in their journey at Fordham.

Friedokra, our basketball team is getting better and better every year (Coach Whittenburg as done an amazing job to revamp the program and just bring the spirit back). You will be amazed how fun basketball games are here at Fordham and our school spirit is just amazing when it comes to basketball. Unfortunately, same cannot be said about our football team, which is getting worst and worst every year. Next year is supposed to be the breakout year for Fordham's basketball team, as our two best players will be seniors next year (they are getting better every year) and as we recruited a very good point guard from GA last year, who will be a sophomore this year and is expected to have a break out year.

I am delighted your basketball team is in breakout mode. I live in ACC country along tobacco road so its tough to impress me in hoops.....lol! But nevertheless, its just good there is great school spirit. Dont give up hope on the football program. I know of some pretty amazing turnarounds (one in the ACC this year that was shocking....I mean REALLY shocking!). Its all about recruiting. And as Fordham recruits in other regions, they will find the lads/ladies to get the job done. One of my favorite movies came out this year, "We are MARSHALL!" An amazing story that I remember very well from my high school days. That story is less about a plane crash, and more about character and school pride. It should be required viewing for EVERYONE on EVERY team at Fordham. Several scenes in that movie really moved me (sniffle, sniffle) in the theatre. One of them was when Bobby Bowden, now at Florida State (for what? 30 years?), who was then coach of WVU, a competitor school who was trampling all over Marshall in recruiting. Coach Bowden allowed the distraught Marshall new coaching staff to use his films and playbooks to get back on their feet....it was an amazing act of kindness....and then when the WVU players came in the film room to see who was in there looking at their "secrets", the WVU players had painted crosses on their helmets in honor of Marshall's incredible tragedy. That scene hit me like a ton of bricks on my heart. A supreme act of good will and christian kindness. And THAT moves players. Emotion. Just my two cents, mind you.

My D is really excited about Fordham. She will be very happy there and has her sights set mighty high academically as well. Due to knee injury and surgery she no longer competes in athletics, though I suppose she could try out for women's crew! LOL. Actually, she is an accomplished musician.

I am sorry about your brother not getting in. Fordham's stats are definitely on the rise, as Fr. McShane explained to us in April. And they intend on taking them a lot higher to challenge Georgetown! I say, "git them Hoyas!" LOL.

Hope to see you in the fall!

My D was accepted to Fordham, too, along with several other excellent schools. Of all the schools, Fordham gave the worst financial aid. I don't get it, but then again middle-class students get a raw deal more times than not. I guess Fordham wants to continue its tradition of an upper-class white student body. Obviously my D isn't going there.

I love posts like that. Lady, I'm a middle class white student, and I got great financial aid.

My D got better financial aid at other schools as well. Fordhams was not great. But you have to put it in context. The cost of living in New York is very high and the school has higher expenses to manage: salaries, building maintenance, etc etc. But your kid will get a great education and if they stay in NYC will earn a HUGE salary. So consider that.

Financial aid/scholarships are based on your finances and on your kids' stats. Greater need and higher scores results in better aid/scholarships.

Its not a perfect science either. Early admit students are first to the well. So to speak. Next year, apply for financial aid EARLY and see what happens.

Fordham, like most selective private colleges, is going to attract a lot of upper middle class or wealthy students, many of whom are in fact white, but not all. Many of them are not applying for or receiving financial aid.

I know of a kid who is from a lot of money, had moderate stats and got into Washington and Lee, an extremely selective school because of its small size, and I know someone with superb stats from a middle class family who got waitlisted at W & L. Is that fair? Money always talks.

There are hundreds of kids on the Fordham waitlist. Be grateful your kid got in. Hope to see you there, its a superb school with a growing reputation.

I feel the extra money is so worth it for my D to be in NYC, for her being in a city was paramount, a small town, unless they paid her, was just no gonna fly
