Is there anything I can do to help myself? I am getting the hang of memorizing the orders and everything that happened, but the tests seem to be all reading comprehension. In it of itself, I am not too bad at reading comprehension, but old English kills me. What can I do to not burn out so early this year?
I dropped that class a month in. For me, it just seemed like way to much time for a high school class. IMO, it’s not really “hard,” it just takes a crap load of time. If you want to do well, you just gotta study for hours a day. I didn’t feel it was worth it, but yeah, you just got to study all the time.
Make sure you’re studying a little bit every night to make sure you’ve got the information down solid. For the reading comprehension part, you don’t necessarily have to understand every word in it. Often times, those would be excerpts from old influential figures and such (at least on the tests at my school). I tend to skim through the passages and pay more attention to the author and time. If you know the time period it was written and all the things that were happening, that can help you to better connect information. Say for instance that an excerpt of Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” was given. Understanding his viewpoints and how his work contributed to the revolution would help you to answer the follow-up questions. Basically, when reading, pick out any historical events that you recognize and use what you know about them to your advantage. Also, you could buy a prep book for APUSH. Those tend to come with practice exams that you could take to work on your skills. Hope this helps!
Thank you, @roseadagio . Yes, the teacher has voiced the idea of going over the outlines many times, but sometimes I can’t get myself to do it…
