As a non-direct admit, you should have been taking the easiest possible schedule your freshman year, then taken more difficult classes after being accepted to Kelley. Every class you take you risk getting lower than a solid B, and you have already taken more than twenty credits; in other words, you exposed yourself to more risk than you should have.

How is it possible that you are in Hutton (since you took honors finite) but not a direct admit to Kelley?

I would not retake E201, as the midterm and final for that class are very difficult. I’m guessing you bombed the final, which happens. Also, since you are apparently in Hutton and are eligible for S201 Honors Microecon and there are still slots open for it, please do not even think about taking it, since Prof. Glomm is one of the toughest graders at IU COAS.

I would take only 12 credits and do the easiest schedule possible and try to bring up my overall gpa. You already have 23 credits-- all from IU, too-- and you only need 26 to apply to Kelley.

I would stay away from CSCI A201. Also, S280, since you only got a solid B in S250, it would be risky to take. You got an A- in S200, so your grades are trending downward in Spanish courses, another good reason not to take S280 in Spring. I know you want to take these classes and are probably very interested in the content, but you should consider making getting into Kelley your only goal in the coming semester.

I think you should retake A100, try to get an A in it next time, which isn’t that hard to do for students who have already taken it once. This will show your commitment to getting into Kelley, and leave you with only the bad microecon grade. Your finite, calculus, x100, and W131 grades are strong. Having taken both finite and calculus will help you a lot. You have taken S200 and S250, which is great, too. I would not risk retaking microecon, as you know know how tough the midterm and final will be; and stay away from the honors version this semester, with its tough grader. Also, don’t take E202. You can take it after getting into Kelley.

I think your overall record for somebody with two C+'s is probably much stronger than most students that have two C+'s. Retake A100 to get rid of one of them. You will have lots of IU hours compared to most applicants trying to get in. Take only 12 credits this Spring and don’t rely on cramming this time.

If your English is good, and you don’t have an extreme problem with stage fright or whatever, I would take X104. It is very tough to get less than a solid B in that class. Go to office hours if you are having problems. I think adding another icore class (x104) to your transcript would look good, too.

Also, if you feel like you can apply yourself, you could take A205 with Hewitt this semester instead of A100. You have to be in Hutton to do that, and I assume you are. If you take A205, don’t take A100 obviously. Anybody who gets in the top 5/6ths of Hewitt’s class will get a solid B. If you took only 12 credits, A205 and X104 and six easy gen ed credits, then it might be possible for you to do well in A205. It would be a big gamble though, but you would probably be virtually the only regular admit applicant in the entire class to have taken A205, which would definitely make your application stand out and also draw attention to the many good grades you have in tough courses at IU. Maybe register for A205 now and get started reading the textbook to familiarize yourself with the material and see if you can handle it, then drop the class before the end of the first week (attend the first two class sessions to get an idea of the content, etc., of you feel like you can make the top 5/6ths of the class; you have until the Friday of the first week of classes to drop without the class appearing on your transcript) if you think you can’t make it. You will still have second eight weeks to take A100 again.
