I applied to newhouse but....

i have only taken one "communications" oriented class in highschool

should i like explain somewhere or something?
my parents wont let me schedule an interview

im a little worried

i have taken tons of drama classes and chorus

but the one communications class was tv production 1.
no creative writing, no journalism, newspaper, magazine, anything...

is this a problem? i have good grades and scores...

3.7 u/w
4.08w
580cr 660m 660w (1900) sats
or 30 on the acts

?????

im really nervous. this is my number one choice and im scared. any thoughts anyone??!

thank you so much

p.s. i wanna do broadcast journalism..

your parents won't let you schedule an interview? anyway, comm courses in hs are irrelevant.....EC's and essay(s) that show your passion for communications are crucial.....

btw, interview would have really helped....pls explain....do they not want you there? other options?

my dad is just really uptight and said i can only go to syracuse if i get into newhouse

he doesnt believe syracuse is a good enough school for the price otherwise

and i live in florida and they wont pay for me to go up there for an interview. even if it is at the cost of my admittance. my dad didnt want me going there anyways he just made an exception for newhouse. its unfair, i think. im really annoyed

Dad is not completely off base...and my D is at Newhouse....didn't realize you were in Fla....
I think being male is a plus, GPA/ACT is ok....it will depend on essays....
other schools you are considering?

also, given that you didn't interview, I assume you didn't visit? really need to do that if you get in....

yeah they will let me visit if i get in because odds are thats where ill be going

i feel like my essays were stellar personally

and yeah do you know if syracuse averages their act's?

i know florida state does

when my ACTs are averaged, i got a 31, which is alot better...

and btw, thank you already so much for all your help and info thusfar

To be honoest. interviews do not account for much. They can only tip you in if it comes down for the last spot between you and somebody else. So whether you engage in one or not really wouldn't make of a difference. It'll most likely only make your application more personal and unforgettable.

which generally would help though! haha

house of london, what do you think my chances are however?

I'd say you're in the GPA and SAT/ACT (For m & w only) range but I cannot really tell you your chance of admission.

haha yeah well thanks though! thats good enough for me!

What about an alumni interview in FL?

never thought about that! how would i go about scheduling that???

As I understand it, you can call admissions and they will see if they can set you up with someone.
If you explain that you're from Florida and you'd really like to visit, but are just unable to currently because of the price and distance, they are usually really helpful.
Just be friendly and courteous, like you would in any situation! =)

Ananelle is absolutely right. The admissions office is very helpful provided you help them to help you and that means as Ananelle stated, being courteous and explaining to them your situation. I'm pretty sure they'll do the best they can. Good luck.
