I.B. vs A.Levels

I’d take A-Levels because it’s less coursework, and you can do them a year or three early. Most universities (North America) treat them the same.

Easiest First

2. Edexcel
3. CIE

Hmmm…Obviously that would depend on the subject. I would hardly think the English A-level to be easier for the Edexcel version vs. the CIE. Also, my Singaporean chemistry tutor who teaches both CIE and Edexcel says the latter A-level goes into more depth.

Hi everyone,
I will be in London this fall for my 2 years A-levels. I’ve completed 2nd year in local high school. When applying for an US Uni, do I have to send my high school transcript *before *A-levels?

Yes, you do.

Tks u
How they’ll consider that? I mean how important is that?
I’m in a High school for gifted, specialized in french but I just had average GPA.
Anw, again, tks u

Off topic:
Anyone knows any SAT prep class in London? I saw Kaplan’s course for 700… err can’t afford.
What kind of ECs, especially volunteer can I take part in?

I just know A lvl Further Maths > everything else

^This is untrue. Firstly, IB HL maths covers nearly all of the A level Further Maths syllabus. Secondly, IB Further Mathematics SL is considered a much more rigourous course than A level Further Maths, and it covers more material as well.

I can not imagine taking A-Level Further Maths…I’m just sticking with A-level Pure Maths :<

By the way, here in Florida, we also have AS and A-levels…but from what I’ve noticed, unless you’re going to a very good school (like HYP or those others), you’re better off taking AP courses if you want the credit for the course.

On the topic of difficulty…I haven’t received my scores from the June 2009 session back yet, but from what I’ve seen on previous marking schemes and tests, AS/A-Level (especially with their awesome grade cutoffs) seems easier to score well than AP.

What about IB verses taking AP classes in a regular high school ? which one is looked better upon getting into a top university ?

they’re all about the same. As long as you do the most rigorous corriculum in your school.
