I-Banking Recruitment at Canadian Schools

There have been a lot of threads on investment banking in American Colleges, yet how do Canadian schools do? Is their a lot of recruitment in certain Canadian Universities (UofT, McGill, Queens, ...) ? Which firms try to get students from there?

Sorry for the generalization of the questions but it seems like Canada is shut-out from the i-banking world.

yeah i was wondering abt this too.. so if anyone could please supply information...

Canada isn't shut out...many i-banks have offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

The only difference is that there are far fewer jobs available there, and they pay significantly less.

i wanna know too.. which university would most firms recruit from?

I would figure McGill, UofT, UBC, Western, and Queen's...

Just because they are pretty much the five best Canadian universities.

Many of the US banks just rotate Americans through their Canadian offices, my brother worked for an American bank in Toronto for several years along with several buddies who were trained with him in NY. Aalso keep in mind that many top Canadian students go to top US undergrads.

Call the Canadian banks or go on their web sites to see their recruiting schedules.

If there was a buldge bracket I-bank stationed in Canada, wouldn't the salary be within the range of the their U.S. counter part?

Probably not...they'd pay out in CND, so it wouldn't be AS impressive...and since living expenses in Canada are considerably lower, i-banks could afford to pay less.

Just as a side note, Lazard recruits at McGill undergrad (might have something to do with their office being right next door to McGill's campus). Not too shabby.

are you saying that the remaining sum earned after you factor out the cost of living will be roughly within the same range as wall street I-bankers?

Within the same range, probably. I don't really know for sure.

cool man, thanx
