I can't decide. NYU Stern or JHU Engineering

Hi, I am new on CC, and this is my first post. I was wondering if anyone could offer me their insights on the social and learning environment for students in the NYU Stern and JHU Engineering programs. I want to choose the best school for me, and I am in the midst of deciding whether I want to do Finance or Computer Science for college, and I got into both of these schools. Both of them gave me about the same amount of financial aid. But, which school would be better for academics in either field? Which school do you think would offer a better overall college experience?

I've always heard a lot about the competitiveness at JHU and how cutthroat it is. I also have heard about how the grading system makes it rather hard to get good grades. Overall, how is JHU's social environment. I apologize for all these questions. But, if anyone can give me any thoughts for any of these questions, I would really appreciate it.

go to NYU. We’re tired of addressing the ■■■■■■■■ cut throat rumors

Don’t go to NYU!!! The cut throat rumors are just that - rumors.
Congrats on getting into 2 great schools, however, I think one is greater than the other!!
JHU is hard- you have to work harder than in high school- so? What is wrong with working a little harder to graduate from a tough school that everyone knows is tough? My son is an engineering major and spends a lot more time studying than he thought he would- but still has time for a full time sport and some down time. His girlfriend went to NYU. She came to visit JHU and fell in love with the campus. Since I have never been to NYU and hear that the campus is spread all over- did you like that? Saying all that- JHU has a stronger recognition name wise and is smaller in size. Not sure what else you are comparing but go visit each again and talk to the students - that should help!! Good luck on your decision!

Thanks for y’alls replies. I really appreciate your help. I just want to see which school would be best for me, and see if anyone had overall opinions about anything for any of the two schools I mentioned.

Yes. NYU’s campus is not really one of those traditional campuses. It’s like part of the city itself, and they don’t really have a campus. They just have a couple buildings and areas of New York City sectioned off for them. Or, at least that’s what I heard from someone who is at NYU.

Thanks for your help. If anyone else wants to share their opinion on either of these schools and their programs I mentioned, I would really appreciate it.

I am Dartmouth 13, but I am from NYC and have friends at NYU Steinhardt and Stern. NYU isn’t buildings sectioned off within NYC, it is a college in the midst of Union Square and Washington Square Park in Manhattan where you get to obtain a college education while living in the culture of NYC. The rent for apartments in the area where the dorms are is well over $5000.00 a month for a one bedroom, and that is where you will be dorming and living (guaranteed housing all 4 years) and making connections. For finance and business, you can’t beat Stern, nor the internships you can obtain in the financial district of Manhattan, and Stern is big on getting you to make those relationships before you graduate. There is nothing at JHU that can compare in the field of finance or business. If you were asking about NYU v. JHU for pre-med, my opinion would be different, but then again, you wouldn’t have applied to Stern, would you? Good luck.

Yeah. Thanks for your reply. I have actually decided Stern in the end, and I will soon be matriculating this week. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
