Johns Hopkins vs. NYU Stern

Hey I'm having a really hard time deciding between Johns Hopkins and NYU Stern so if anyone has any wisdom or advice to share it would be greatly appreciated.

I know that I want to go into business, but I'm not quite sure what route I should take. I could go to Stern and major in finance like everyone else, work hard and come out with a pretty good job in NYC and eventually go get my MBA. On the other hand, I could go to Johns Hopkins and major in Economics, with the possibility of double majoring in International Relations, work for a couple years and then go get my MBA.

I know no matter which college I choose I will have to work hard, but I do have certain reservations with Stern that there isn't a real campus and that the students may be more cutthroat competitive than cooperative competitive. I'm not one to back away from competition, but I don't know if spending four years watching my back would be the best thing in the world in addition to the infamous Stern curve.

Thank you for any advice!

stern finance > jhu.

congrats btw, those are some sweet schools.

Thanks a bunch.

Anyone else have an opinion? I’d really really appreciate it!

If you were going into biology or pre-med i’d say JHU in a heartbeat. However, for business, Stern is one of the best.

bump…

Anyone else? I’m getting concerned about how cutthroat Stern is, I’m not quite sure of the environment there…

I have to agree that for business Stern is better. I’ve heard contradictory stories on how cutthroat it actually is, so I’m not really sure. I know that Stern kids do tend to associate together outside of classes.

I did hear somewhere that the Stern Curve was being revised, although i have no idea if it was for the better or the worse.

The_Confucius (OP), what did you end up choosing? Are you happy there? I’m a high school senior facing the exact same decision, and any insight you have would be hugely helpful
