I can't decide whether I should go for/risk REA or not

I feel like I don’t really need my senior year grades to be stronger, but since they say it’s more competitive for REA, I can’t decide whether I should go for it and have peace of mind through the winter or not. I am most worried about the 610 in writing and B+ and 3 in AP Comp not looking too good. Just if you guys could give me your opinions/chances of what would be my best shot. Thanks!!

I may be totally wrong about this, but here’s my thought: they probably wouldn’t reject someone REA who they would have accepted RD (when the applicant pool is much larger). If you have a genuine chance, then it’s more likely that they’d defer you to RD rather than outright reject you REA. And if they do reject you REA, then you’d probably have been rejected RD, too… but with REA, at least you’d know sooner. I just don’t see applying REA as a “risk”, unless you anticipate some significant achievements later in the year that would greatly increase your chances.

Agree with above. I say, go for it! I think the worst case would be a deferral for you, though I think you have a good shot. Best of luck!!!

Thanks guys! I think I will go for it

Hey guys, since you helped me and will probably help many kids after me, I just wanted to give you an update so you can continue to help kids. I unfortunately was denied REA :frowning: but at least I got into BC. Thanks for everything guys!

@Windhunde Aww, sorry to hear that! I’m sure it hurts, and there is honestly nothing I can do to help out. Way to be optimistic though! I know if I were in your place (which could very well happen), there’s almost no way I’d be looking at the bright side of getting into BC that quickly after hearing back from ND. Best of luck in whatever you do!

Windhunde-Congrats on Boston College–it is a great school! Sorry to hear that ND didn’t work out the way you were hoping, but with a BC acceptance it sounds like you will have some good choices!

@Windhunde ND has to turn away lots of great kids every year because of the size of each class and the number of applicants. You will find your home somewhere else. Good luck.
