Hey,

I have already submitted all my forms, CSS profile, FAFSA, tax return form etc…but where on the website can I find Barnard’s separate application?

[Barnard College Financial Aid](http://www.barnard.edu/finaid/procedures-first.html)

Another form? Oh no!!! Wasn’t the Profile enough? Do you think it is to late?

If you want financial aid and have not filed a required form, then I think you should be asking the Financial Aid department, not posting your question on CC. It’s pretty clear from the web site at [Barnard College Financial Aid](http://www.barnard.columbia.edu/finaid/procedures-first.html) that the Barnard form was due by February 1st.

That being said, the information requested on the Barnard form at http://www.barnard.columbia.edu/finaid/pdfs/Financial_Aid_App_10-11.pdf seems duplicative of the PROFILE, and if you checked the “will be applying for aid” box on the application, and completed both the PROFILE and FAFSA on time – then their should be a file open for you at the financial aid office. The financial aid staff spends all of February and most of March chasing down missing paperwork that is in their files – I can attest from personal experience that they are reasonably good about sending emails or letters saying what more they need.

There is also a Financial Aid portal where you can log in and check status, but I honestly don’t know if this is available to applicants or only to continuing students.

However, if you want aid I think you need to be proactive about jumping through whatever hoops are required. It’s quite possible that a student might be admitted but experience delay in receiving a financial aid award because of incomplete documentation – and that can make things harder in terms of weighing options in April.

Calmom, keep in mind that a majority of students here are applying to a lot of different schools, with a bunch of different reqs…It gets confusing sometimes. Your right about the whole being “proactive” thing though. Your late filing for aid, so you need to be calling so much that the secretary knows you by name :D

Well, part of the process of “applying to a lot of different schools” means that the student (or their parent) needs to check and track each and every school’s different requirements.

I understand that it’s confusing. A spreadsheet can help.

The problem is that students sometimes do miss out on aid because of late filed documents. I think the Barnard financial aid staff is great – they have been very tolerant and flexible with me over the years and the issue of compliance from the non-custodial parent. (It’s been tough getting the required documents from him at all, impossible to get them anything close to on-time).

But other schools may not be – I have heard of many cases of students being entirely shut out of the process because they didn’t get their paperwork in time, usually at the type of schools that have limited financial aid budgets and don’t promise to meet full need of all comers. So part of the process of getting money means to be as pro-active as possible. This is especially important if the student wants to be able to compare financial aid awards – its quite possible to be admitted to a college but then be told that a financial aid award is not ready because of missing paperwork.
