I can't take any AP classes next year...

All AP classes next year will require a 4.0 GPA. And I have a 3.8. Seriously, what's the point of this requirement? For example, AP English this year requires a B in honors English or an A in regular and a teacher recommendation. That's it. Next year they're adding a bunch of extra requirements including the 4.0.

I want to take AP because I want to challenge myself and regular classes are so boring...

A 4.0 that's bull shi*.

So how many people actually qualify for AP classes now?

I think there are requirements at my school, but they're a "C or better". Then again, it's a big school and there are several classes for each AP and so there's more room. Do you think they're doing that because there wouldn't be enough room?

Still, I don't really like the idea of not even giving kids chances.

If you go to a public school, you might still be able to get into AP classes if you have your parents complain.

^Seriously. Parents have the power when it comes to Public School. You just tell them you'll bring your parents and it's over.

If not, just speak with your teachers, ask if you can still sign up for the test, and maybe self-study?

Yeah.

Parents are above all in public schooling. :D

Unless your school does crazy grade inflation, that's ridiculous. Maybe 4 people per grade would be able to take AP classes if they did that at my school. Ridiculous. Get your parents.

...yeah, I'm definitely going to say for the first time that I'm glad that I go to my failing public school.

wow, that is ridiculous.

if having your parents talk to the administration doesn't do anything (i'm not the type to suggest doing that, but i really think it'd be logical in this case) you can still buy the AP prep books for your classes and follow along, then take the tests at the end of the year. you'd show them!

What a load of BS. Definitely get your parents to complain. Don't let them win!

This is still pis*sing me off. What the heck? A 4.0?

Naw, private Catholic school :(. The 4.0 is weighted, but still, I have a 3.5 overall and I'm ranked 118 out of 288 (got transcripts today), so not very many will be able to take APs.

Also, the honors requirement is a 3.8 which I barely make, but that's what I have after the first marking period of the semester. I'd have to keep that the entire semester just to make honors

Word: Parents.

Not sure how it works at a private school, but as people say, parents > all in public. (Though, in private, since your parents are paying the money, they really should have a say in it. They're the consumers, so to speak, so...) Yeah, parents work well.

What a dumb requirement. No offense to your school or anything, but seriously...?

Okay. I have to ask. Is it a 4.0 requirement or are there prerequisites that you need to meet such as an A in a previous class? If its the later then that is not a 4.0 requirement.

^ I'll read the requirements for AP Lit and Comp for next year, straight from my course catalog

"Overall 4.0 GPA, A average for the entire year of junior Honors English course or 83% both semesters in AP Lang & Comp, teacher recommendation and Department Chair approval"

AP Gov:
"Overall 4.0 GPA, a grade of 83% or better in AP US History or grade of A in H US History I & II, concurrent enrollment in AP or Honors English, and Department Chair approval"

thats so dumb if thats required to take an ap

Well, at least it's not a 4.0 for EVERYTHING. That's what it sounded like to me. That would have been ridiculous. Like if you wanted to do AP English, but you needed a 4.0 over all of high school that that would be mean.

Wow, no offense to your school or anything, but that is the most retarded rule ive ever heard of. You and yoru parents should definitely talk to administration.

They have a similar requirement for taking the AP German exam in my school (which means I can't take it, despite being in the class). It's to make their statistics look better, which means they recieve more funding, **** everyone else.
