I-Day Immunization Advice

True story. I know because it happened to my 2012 plebe.

We were meticulous about getting his immunization records and getting him all the recommended/required shots well before I-Day so that he wouldn't have to deal with any shot-related queasiness during Plebe Summer. Even got the chicken pox titer. Mailed AND faxed to USNA before the deadline. Made extra copies.

Showed up on I-Day with everything exactly as instructed. He had his paperwork in his small duffel bag along with his 6 pairs of underwear, etc.

Walked through the door, had his duffel bag taken away within seconds. He wasn't even given the time to take the paperwork out of the bag. Shortly thereafter, medical personnel asked for his immunization record. He tried to explain where it was, but they cut him off and promptly gave him every single shot on the list. 15 in all.

My advice: keep your immunization records in your hand.

Sent S to USMMA with copies of everything in big folder he hand carried to prevent just this situation from happening. What a way to start, so sorry to your son!

He's doing great, no ill effects, loving USNA.

But still, it would have been better to avoid all those shots...

LOL Mine had the shot record in his hands and still got all of the shots again!
There is no rhyme or reason as to who the lucky over immunized will be.

15!? I had 3 shots which I was required to have in order to participate in athletics at my school, after which my arm was hotter than molten iron, and I had to miss 2 days of school and an entire weekend in order to recover.

the recommendation is to bring a copy of your record with you on I-day, and keep it ON YOUR PERSON. There is no time to rummage through a duffle bag, back pack, or even a wallet- have it in your hand and keep it there until you are seen - and complete- medical.
