I did terrible

This is my second time taking it I got a 480-CR and 530-M, my first time I got a 500-CR and 480-M, I am shooting for an 1150-1200. I am taking the SAT July 4th for the third time (I am a junior) My question is if I study starting now 5 hours a day (watching Kaplan SAT videos, flashcards and practice tests) will I possibly be able to pull off a 1150-1200?

How did you do on writing? BTW, the test is next weekend, don’t wait until July to show up :-).

The key thing is to practice the exams and study the areas where you are weak. Kaplan isn’t a great choice, but better than nothing. Try taking the practice SAT on the College Board website… it will tell you where your weaknesses are.

Probably better to wait though until the fall and use the summer to prepare.

Hey I started it out just as poorly as you CR 450 Math 500 WR 480 but i studied from the princeton book and raised my scores to 540 CR Math 640 Writing 610 good luck

I got a 450 on the writing with an essay score of 9 I did terrible on that too, so if I study starting now until July 3rd do you think I will do okay?

Sadly, I scored similarly on the math section. I have taken the SAT practice test on the College Board’s website, and apparently my weakest point is “math reasoning”.

Most people would say I’m generally logical and have good reasoning, which is also backed up by my high IQ score (I don’t recall my exact IQ score, but it was good).

However I am confident that if I push myself harder these next few days, then I could significantly raise my math score to at least a 600. It seems I’m just lacking some fundamental algebra knowledge and SAT question interpretation skills.

I guess we have a common goal to work towards. Good luck. :p

There is not a test in July, the test is in 8 days… in JUNE.

Thank you  The problem is if I dont score high this weak and I am forced to take it a 4th time will that look bad on college?

No, I believe you are in full control of your scores, so the colleges will only see what you decide to show them.

Just wait to take it in the fall and prepare over the summer. A week isn’t going to give you as much as you need.

And in my case I actually made a major bubbling error too. I was on section 6 and towards the end of section 7 started filling in the bubbles for questions around #20 in section 6.

I thankfully realized what I had done in time and started erasing frantically, but ended up omitting about three or so math questions because I ran out of time… :(

Edit: By the way, does anyone know the curve of this month’s exam?

Mine were terrible, as well. I got a composite score of 1530, but I was striving towards a 1700. Looks like we’ll both be hitting the books this summer.

don’t worry guys, i totally feel you people. i got a 1500 on my first practice sat. then i took a class and raised to 1700. took my first official sat in january which i got 1790 on. then toook it again in may and got 1860 (kinda disappointing though, thought i got into the 1900s). i definitely see some sort of improvement in there and i’m now getting more ambitious and am currently aiming for the 2000s!!! I’m pretty sure you guys can do it!!! :D

Buddy, you did terribly. Learn to use correct grammar and your scores will benefit. Haha, I’m not trying to be a pretentious Grammar-Nazi, I just couldn’t resist poking fun at you for a moment, sorry haha. No offense intended(:

lol i took my first diagnostic test and i got a 1260, but i guess that’s mainly because my vocab sucks like **** and I don’t know anything about it lol

I think a class ( proabbly Princeton Review Ultimate) would really help you guys. or if your motivated enough the books will. As for sentence completions everyone says just read, but let’s be real time is running out. Just read Direct hits and memorize them ALL. if thats too much do PR 250 hit parade. basically a must.) as for math practice accuracy. REVIEW THE TESTS. writing you must not decide why it is right, but justify why al lthe rest are wrong. Essays: fill up the 2 pages no matter what. don’t get off topic but make sure your clear using advanced vocabulary and adjectives when necessary. keep hitting them with your thesis if you must. Math you NEED to review. if your getting these scores, you guys are clearly unaware of certain tricks. Only once you hit a 650 is it considered speed and critical thinking. for math now. FIND THE TRICKS but a workbook and begin.

Follow Smitten’s advice. Post pone til the fall and study your butt off this summer. One week will not help at all. You can take it in October and still be able to do rolling admits in the fall. My D did that and improved her scores immensely. But you have to put in the effort!

Honestly dude, I think you need more time to raise your score. FYI I started out at 43 CR (PSAT) and am now at 760-780CR. Definitely possible.

how^??? I got a 550 on my CR and that destroyed my score. Right now I am struggling to keep a 650… I am fine with the sentence completions but what do you do for the passages?

Here’s a thought: try taking the ACT. No, really. Most universities and colleges now will look at both SATs and ACT scores that are sent in and will pick the one with better test scores to represent you. Times have changed since I was a student way back in the Stone Age when the ACT was accepted mostly by mid-western schools. The ACT is getting to be more universally accepted now and is based more on what you’ve learned so far rather than serving as an aptitude test which is the SAT. On the ACT there’s also no penalty for guessing.

D’s guidance counselor said that if a kid is repeatedly not doing well on the SAT they should try seeing how they do on the ACT. Some kids do better on one than the other. My daughter got a math score in the low-middle 500s each of the three times she took the SAT. On the ACT, first try, she got a 25 on the math section, which although still not spectacular was equivalent to a 620 on the SAT. She also did much better on the reading and writing portions of the ACT than her SAT. I am convinced that D got into most of her college choices with her ACT scores rather than her SAT scores.

Thanks for the info, I have decided to purchase The Princeton Review Cracking the SAT 2011 edition and I will study that all this summer. October is basically my last chance to take the SAT (be my 3rd time and I will be a senior), I will also take the ACT as soon as it is offered next school year. Like I said if I do bad this October good bye colleges I want to go to (Michigan State, Ohio State, SUNY Ferdonia). So it all comes down to this, I wish everyone who is in the same situation as me good luck!
