i don't fit in at college

Hi, i go to an extremely small private college (about 1500 undergrads) and I just dont feel like i fit in. It seems like most of the kids here fall under one of two category. "athlete" or "nerd" and i am neither. I am into more of the alternative lifestyle like skateboarding, partying, music, etc. and i cant really find any good friends her. On weekends I usually end up hanging out with people from the close by state U. Really, the only thing keeping me here is my professors. They are AMAZING and I really dont wanna leave them. I do have friends here but no really good friends.

What would you do? Have you ever felt like this? Do you think I should... transfer?

I'd say consider transfering out to a bigger school but then again all feelings come in phases and this phase of lonliness might end up going away.

How long have you been going to this school? If you have been there a good amount of time and still feel like you don't belong, then it might be a good idea to consider transferring. You don't want to spend 4 years somewhere you don't feel good about.

Have you taken the time to join any campus organizations that interest you? That's usually the way that college students meet like-minded friends.

small colleges suck. you should go to big colleges with populations of 25,000+

what year are you?

proton: I go to a small college with 3,000 undergrads and LOVE it. It depends on the college, and whether the person fits there.

i'm gonna be a sophmore

Hey, I go to a big university, and it's not an instant "cure-all" because there are so many people. If you're giving a thought to transferring, I definitely recommend doing some in-depth research. Even with thousands of students, I definitely feel out of place very often. I call this my "second freshman year"; it's another chance to try to find the right groups of people for me where I can finally reach a degree of comfort. I would recommend making a pros/cons list, too. Is this something you could deal with, or is it really affecting you? I find myself already wishing that I had put in for a transfer, but like all big changes, we need time to adjust and discover....some need a little longer than others (me definitely). Good luck :).

Can you possibly transfer to the other school, but still take (a lot) of classes at your old school?

Could you move off campus of your small school and live in an area that's more populated with people from that State U? Or is that going to wind up being a bit too far for a daily commute?

i havent made any close friends so far either, just good ones and only one great one.

I am going into a small school too, 1500 student body. If u see me hanging around here often this term, it would probably mean I haven't made friends either, sigh.
