I don't get it... is this one college or 2?

I don't understand. The athletic teams are split and everything?

Two....but you can live in the same dorm and attend the same classes. Diploma is separate.

They're two different colleges, but they operate on a coordinate system. What this means is that the colleges share a single campus, an administrative office (there is one President for both colleges), classes, and most residences.

However, they have separate deans' offices, athletic programs, admissions (men are admitted to Hobart College, women are admitted to William Smith College) & student governments. Students graduate with diplomas from their respective college, not Hobart and William Smith Colleges as a whole. Also, while William Smith is prohibited from having sororities, Hobart is allowed fraternities. The Colleges still have a few separate traditions and customs.
