I don't get this Ivy Love thing...

So he’s kind of a trophy kid? Good going.

^^ Finally, somebody comes up with a real reason for sending a kid to Yale!

^I guess that’s right momzie.

And thanks, it’s no big deal really…

mmwahahaha…:)

My hat is off to you, yalemom15. That was a priceless post…finally, someone has the gumption to admit the real reason they want their kid to go to an Ivy. :)

I want a Trophy Kid, too! I’m sure you would get the same reaction by saying, um, Miami of Ohio!

When my sibling and I were in college, my parents took the same understated joy in driving around town in a car with a Vassar decal in one corner of the back window and a Yale decal in the other. Aw shucks. It was nothing. Mwaaahahahaha

Love that post, Yalemom. I’m already wondering if I have to stop wearing my Yale hoodie to the gym after my kid graduates. And when does the decal have to come off the car, jym?

I’m joining the not politically correct camp of Yalemom! Good for you. ;)

I am going to need to perfect my straight face when I tell people that the “H” in Amherst is silent!

Mwaaahahahaha

+1 for YaleMom…btw my aunt unfortunately does not get that reaction about my cousin who goes to Yale as she has a very thick accent and people think that she says that her son is at JAIL!:D

Am hoping my parents got extra $$$ on their trade-in for those decals, wjb!!

Now THAT would be poetic justice, jym. Thanks to the aforementioned jumbo tuition payments, I am driving a car with 100,000+ miles on it. (Actually, I love my car. She’s like a reliable family member!)

I’m sorry. Which schools exactly are gloat compliant?

Yikes, just realized D’s school isn’t on the compliant list, tis just a little Ivy. Mea culpa, mea culpa.

Just had my first sip of wine and I almost spit it out. That’s priceless.

Glad you all enjoyed that post, it was oddly liberating :D

Funny car sticker story: The day I put my Yale decal on the back windshield I went into town to run some errands. I was preoccupied with something (which I can’t even remember now) and was the first car in line sitting in the left turn lane of a busy intersection. I literally sat through the entire green arrow and only realized it as it turned yellow leading me to gun the engine and speed through the left turn.

There was a car behind me the whole time (who obviously didn’t make the light), but he/she never honked…I think they were looking at my window decal thinking “Yale”? yeah right!

I have a healthy respect for any kid who gets into an Ivy. Good for them! They are incredibly smart, and have worked very hard for that. In fact, I know a family whose triplets were accepted to 3 different Ivies- awesome, sweet, wonderful kids. And humble.

Yet, I don’t feel the shock and awe that some are describing here. Maybe there’s something wrong with my impress-o-meter. :(

Don’t make that mistake again, you Pretender you. :D

My name is GA2012MOM, I am a pretender, and I am a poseur. :frowning: My bad.

But don’t forget the “H” is silent. :)

^^^^^I think in some circles it’s pretty genuine. But what would I know? I am a graduate of a half a$$ed state flagship! LOL.

^ I’m with you, Nrdsb4 (post #196). I mean, it’s a great accomplishment to get into these schools, but I’ve had enough contact with Ivy students and Ivy grads over the course of my lifetime to know that they’re not all the most brilliant and talented people you’ll ever meet in your life. As a graduate student at 2 Ivy institutions, many of my classmates were Ivy grads, but the Ivy grads were on average no smarter or more talented or better people than those who came from non-Ivy schools. In my professional life, some of my most brilliant and talented co-workers have been Ivy grads, but others have been Chicago grads, or Northwestern grads, or Amherst grads, or Michigan grads, or Berkeley grads; and not all the Ivy grads are in that “most brilliant and talented” category, some are sort of average (for a very strong cohort, mind you). As a professor, some of my students have been Ivy students or, at the graduate level, Ivy grads. Some have been stellar. Others less so.

The Ivies are very good schools . . . no, I’ll go further, they’re great schools. But they’re not the only great schools. And the people who attend them are not somehow cut from different cloth. They’re on average very bright and very talented. But so are a lot of other people.
