I don't know how to study for APUSH

I write notes from using information from the book, here is an example:

Embargo Act 1807 [Page 241 | Political] –
Definition: Based off of “peaceable coercion”. If Britain and France refused to respect the rights of neutral carriers, then the United States would keep its ships at home.
*Slightly damaged the British Economy

*Caused anger over the colonists “Ograbme”

*Jefferson underestimated how Economics worked; He thought it would have the same effect as the old Acts

*Colonists refused to obey these laws

*Congress used more laws and rules to try and enforce this law including a local militia

*Northern States & Lake Champlain residents hated the Embargo

*The act failed and was repealed soon after Madison was in power

*Sailors & Artisans were thrown out of work.

Cause: Great Britain was seizing ships that went out to ocean to trade with the French and vice versa.

Summary: The Embargo Act was an act passed by Jefferson which he thought would fix the problems of America’s neutrality rights but he underestimated the process of economics. This in turn barely weakened the British empire and increased the Bankruptcy of America.

But I just can't tell what parts are actually important for the test??

When my teacher puts his notes online all he writes is this

"
1. Embargo of 1807 – “peaceable coercion”
a. don’t trade with anyone – keep Am. ships home"

That’s good. Just remember most of what you write and you’ll get a 5.

Thats not my problem. I want to get an A on the in class quizzes. I always** learn** the wrong useless things.

historyteacher * net has some good powerpoints that my teacher tells us to use
ummm if you were really concerned you could express this concern to your teacher telling him/her that you are struggling with studying the wrong things.

Notes are for scrubs. Buy AMSCO and just read that. Turn in your textbook. It’s useless and inefficient.

it’s pretty easy stuff.
really just try to understand general ideas of the time period—then add in additional details.
what you wrote seems to cover the major points.
just “memorize” it

AP US is a pretty straightforward class for me. Just take notes…I find writing things down helps me to remember things. Also imagine it as a story – and remember that it is real life – this makes it much more interesting.

A lot of people in my grade swear by the review book
[Amazon.com: United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination (9781567656602): John J. Newman: Books: Reviews, Prices & more](http://www.amazon.com/United-States-History-Preparing-Examination/dp/1567656609)

I prefer reading both that book and the textbook together but yeah…the review book gives you thinks more clearly/concisely. Good luck!
