Hello, I am a 17 year old senior. I am very passionate about music and I want to continue my journey in music. I want to be able to study music in college to improve my musicianship and work with the best musicians/teachers. I have been thinking about majoring in Music. I was originally solely go to do that but I realized that its going to be hard to make money from it. So I decided to get a major in music and a minor in business. Then go get my masters in business. I think this is a good idea. I really don’t want to double major because it will be so demanding. But this seems like a real possibility to me. I want to be able to ‘secure the bag’ in undergrad so I dont have to spend more time in school. If I end up double majoring I might major in business and music. I know for sure I want to study music in college but I will need a back up plan. I’ve been trying to figure out what other potential majors beside business I could do. My mom wants me to be a pharmacist but I don’t like health. I have no interest in law or anything related to law. I dont like teaching. I like English but I hate when it gets to analytical. I like math but it makes my head hurt. I wouldn’t considered myself a mathematician though. Im decent at it but not amazing. I like chemistry but I didnt like the hard part of it. I dont like teaching but I like helping others. My reason for this is because teachers are disrespected and underpaid. I thought I liked computer science but I came to the reality that I didn’t. To be honest I am tired of school. But I dont want to be a failure. I don’t want to pick a major or degree that would stress me out too much. But I want a degree that will pays alot, $50000 or more. I would like to own my own business. My dream is to have my business making money for me while I go around and do gigs and play gigs. I dont like having a job where you clock in and out everyday. Please help me. If you need more information tell me.
It’s ok not to be certain about your major at 17. Take a look at college programs you may be interested in. The Berklee College of Music in Boston has a Bachelor’s degree in Music Business management. I don’t know about your state schools but here in NJ Rutgers has the Mason Gross School for the Arts and a business program. Maybe your guidance counselor can suggest schools that would be appropriate for music and business.
You don’t need to know right now what you want to major in. If you do want to study music though, it’s probably a good idea to apply to schools that have good music programs. Start by researching that first, then see if they also offer programs in finance and business. There will be plenty of colleges where you will be able to study both.
You’re 17 and at least two years away from declaring any major. There is no need to try and plan your entire life out right now. Just take a step at a time.
Not sure this is serious. We don’t even know OP’s level in music, only that he/she doesn’t like ‘this’ and doesn’t want ‘that.’
But yes, kids have time to decide, a couple of years.
And someone’s bound to come along and suggest writing in paragraph form.
