I am trying to work on my UT application and I am having such a difficult time because I don't know what majors I want to apply to! Since I am top 2% of my class in-state with above range SAT scores, an admissions officer told me that I will likely be admitted to any individual school I apply to (excluding the honors programs for those schools; that he couldn't really comment on/predict). I don't want to apply Undecided because then I will be stuck in the Liberal Arts school. If I'm going to go to UT, I want to take advantage of a top-ranked program.

I will most likely apply to Biomedical Engineering as one of my two majors. I am also interested in Neuroscience, so would I apply to the College of Natural Sciences for that? Then again, I am interested in Plan II. At this point, I am pretty sure I want to go to either medical school or law school for graduate studies. I know those two are worlds apart, but that's what I'm thinking. I've heard you can double-major in Plan II and something else, but what?

I know that McCombs is one of the top 5 programs in the nation but I don't have a lot of interest in business. However, my parents think that if I'm going to go to UT I should take advantage of the best that UT undergrad has to offer. Any opinions or advice?

You know, you sound a lot like me. Up until I got into AP Calculus I was deadset on going into Biomedical Engineering - then I realized that I really dislike math (engineering-type math), so I was torn between biomed or business. I ended up applying to McCombs and was accepted. I also applied with Plan II as my second choice major, but I'm still waiting on that decision. I'm in the top 1% of my class and in-state also.

If you want to go into Neuroscience, then I would apply to the College of Natural Sciences as a biology major since you'll most likely end up in med school if you go that route.

As for Plan II, double-majoring is highly encouraged, but in certain fields. Like, I doubt a double-major in engineering, especially biomed, would work out well. If I go into Plan II then I'll double-major in accounting or MIS. I'm almost positive I want to go to law school, so a firm Liberal Arts background is great, which is where Plan II comes in. I attended a Liberal Arts Honors class and it is geared toward law - I adored it.

I hope that helped! Feel free to message me anytime you want.

Yeah, that definitely helped! Thank you so much.

My main concern is that I want to major in something for undergraduate work that I can actually get a well-paying job after college in case something goes wrong and I don't go to grad school/med school/law school. Everybody at my high school is obsessed with BME because apparently you can get a good job with an undergrad degree and there isn't really a lack of availability.

I read somewhere that a lot of Plan II kids specialize with a focus on heading towards medical school or law school. I know that I don't have to decide whether I want to go to medical school or law school right now, but I need to choose which majors I'm applying to. If I'm planning on double-majoring, how would I go about applying to different majors? I'm ranked high enough so that there probably isn't a school at UT that I couldn't get into, but I am just having so much trouble deciding and scholarship priority deadline is next week!!
