I don't know what to do?

What should I study if I like to drawing, photography, writing, and video? (I don’t want to study engineering)

I recently found about the major of digital Media( for some reaso it sounds like graphic design, but it looks different from what I’ve investigated.) but I still need more information for that career, and I was thinking about graphic design but there is something that I don’t like. (I can’t explain it, but there is something in graphic design that bothers me.) I really don’t know what to study to be honest, and I was wondering if someone knows how can I use all of what I like in a major. I know I may sound silly but I’m finishing my freshman year and soon I’ll need to declare a major.

This is not going be the most helpful reply, but have you ever considered a field in architecture? I’m not too keen on the specifics, but drawing and photography are key components. It’s quite artistic while still demanding strength in areas like reading and writing.

Based on your interests, I genuinely feel you’re on the right track with majoring in digital media. You would dabble in color theory, 2D and 3D projects, computer design, as well as design history. I’m not sure what exactly turns you off when it comes to graphic design (maybe the typography aspect?) but you can always gear your digital media studies towards video curation. Thinking along the lines of making TV commercials, ads, websites, etc.

Hopefully someone else can add some ideas. Wishing you all the best!

I think I don’t have enough information for graphic design, and I’m not gonna lie it would be interesting. The thing is I’m not really sure what I want to do exactly and where do I want to work, so my situation right now is very complicated. I have been told that graphic design is just about doing flyers and logos. That doesn’t sound too appealing to me. I want to use my creativity somewhere but I don’t know where! I’m not sure about digital media either (what can you do exactly? I read is a new degree.)

People have told me to major in business if I don’t know what to study. But in fact, I entered college with that plan. (I know that someday I would like to have a business.) but I just don’t imagine myself only studying business even though I took some classes it was boring, for I didn’t really have the “spark” to continue. I read about communication and somehow it also got my attention but the things that people say nowadays about majors that aren’t STEM, scares me! This “mentality” makes me hesitate about my choices (I know that I should choose what I want.) But I don’t want my life to be depressing and miserable…

Some part of me tells me to major in graphic design or in communications but I don’t know, as far as I know… if you hesitate about choosing your career then it’s not the right one (According to my counselor.)

If I decide to major in graphic design, where would I be working?

If I decide to major in communications or digital media, where would I be working?

I imagine myself outside with a camera and sketchbook or directing my own business. Funny huh?

Also, I have considered architecture but I don’t want that as a career.

To be honest, I am scared of my choices. This has been bothering since high school… I am a very indecisive person, I remember that I used to say that I wanted to be a doctor but then changed my mind, I wanted to be an engineer but then changed my mind (I don’t like it), I wanted to be a pilot but then changed my mind.

Look at the majors in your college of communication.
If you tell us what college you attend we’ll better be able to help.

I’m attending FSU but next year I plan to transfer to another university.

-Architecture
-Landscape Architecture
-Graphic Design
-Digital Media

Transfer? Why? You’re not even settled on a major at your college?

Look at these majors that both seem to match what you want:

Note that admission is competitive and is based on your first two years.

OK, so you like to draw, take pictures, write and film…does that necessarily mean you want to do it for your career?

Digital media is different - I have a friend who majored in something similar in college. It’s bigger than graphic design; it’s more about telling stories and conveying information using a variety of media. My friend does all of the above things you love in her day to day work.

What is she studying? I’m looking for colleges and it would be awesome if you could recommend me some.
