So i have a 3.95 Unweighted GPA with some AP and honors... and I have a pretty heavy senior load, but my SAT score is 1720... real bad and my ACT is 24, I'm definitely taking both of the tests again in the fall, and I think I can improve. Also, I have 4 years of varsity track and 4 years of varsity cross country, plus I am a captain... I am also senior class president next year, and a bunch of ASB ish in the past, i have a job during the school year.. ah yes, i am white/male/out of state... if that helps at all... any chance despite my test scores????

Everything looks good except test scores as you have noted. If you can get them up to the 29 area or better, I'd say you've got a decent shot. 31+ should put you in. But with current test scores, no, I highly doubt it.

don't be so harsh on yourself. adcom, especially for selective universities like NYU, doesn't just look at numbers. they look at YOU-- what you do outside of school, what you are like (this is why essays are CRUCIAL), etc.

i would recommend taking only one of those tests...which one do you feel you were more confident on? for me the ACT was a real downer...i had NO idea what I was doing, whereas in SAT i felt more comfortable with the pace of the test. you have so much more to think about in your app than your test scores. your GPA is not bad at all.

even though i have no expertise whatsoever in NYU, i will say that it is a slight reach for you.

To which school and major are you applying?

All seems strong except the test scores. If you write amazing essays to create a dimensional image of you, they along with everything else might be able to water down the effect of your scores. If you bring them up to at least the 1900/28-30 range, you'd have a decent shot (though Stern would be a slight reach and Tisch would be contingent on a strong portfolio/audition).

Dude, de la noche, don't be discouraged; everyone has a chance.

Your SAT scores might be a bit low, but you said you'll take it again this fall, and it's gonna be a lot better. Maybe you just took a hard test version... I know one kid who made like a 1800 on one test and got a 2200 on the other.

You got a high GPA (a hell lot beter than mine, lol), and some frickin impressive extra curricular activities. I'm sure you'll get in no sweat : ))

so i'll be applying to stern if that helps at all... thanks a lot for all the input!

oh, delanoche, i think you have absolutely no problem applying to NYU. if that's your gpa unweighted, then wow, i am really impressed. and have you heard that it is now to one's advantage to be a male and applying to college? ya its kind of not fair for us ladies but the ratio of females to males attending college is overwhelming (something of a 3:1). so you defenitely have an edge over your female friends.
i'm also considering NYU.. i live in southern california and i want to get faaaar far away lol.. so nyu is a good opportunity for that. as for majors, i'm still incredibly undecided.. i know its horrible at this point (im a frikken senior), but its true! is the stern business school difficult? (duh its going to be..) i would also like to pursue fashion design (heh, there goes the money)
any input would be highly appreciated! :)

Definitely get your scores up, since you're a wannabe-Sternie. Other than that, you have as good of a chance as anyone else. Good luck. :D

would you guys say that NYU has a strong journalism program? because i'm also considering that (among like.. 234234 other majors haha)
my chances are probably uber low for northwestern's journalism school, but what do you think?
