In the school parking lot earlier, I was backing out my car, perfectly straight, no way I was touching any of the cars parked beside me. I suddenly heard a scraping sound, but assumed it was from the part beneath my front bumper scraping the stopper at the front of the parking space. As soon as I was pulled out enough, I looked at the cars beside me and wasn’t sure if I saw a scratch on the car next to my passenger door. There was a girl sitting in her car staring at me, we made direct eye contact. I was just confused and kinda panicked. I saw cars coming in behind me and didn’t wanna hold up, also didn’t trust myself to re park after being panicked so i left the garage. I parked and checked out my car to see if any paint had come off or anything, but it was completely clear. I also had a nearly flat tire and my emission system needed checking so I headed straight to the car shop after, assuming that I didn’t do any damage to the car. If I had scraped the car and was reported by that girl I made eye, contact with, will I end up having criminal charges?
You don’t even know if you scraped the car, right? As you pulled out straight, there’s no reason to assume you did.
If this was an accident, if it even happened (which seems to be the case), I REALLY doubt that any charges will be brought. Maybe an insurance payment, but probably not that. What charges would even be brought? Do you know this girl?
I don’t think you need to worry.
The girl and I made eye contact and I looked at her confused, not sure if she heard the sound or not. It was very brief. But I do remember when I parked, with no other cars beside me, the part beneath my front bumper was up against the parking stopper so it could have just been that sound.
Yeah, I didn’t get a good enough look. It was really overcast and it was a PT cruiser that was shiny so couldn’t tell if it was just a glare. I just had lots of anxiety building up throughout the day cause my car was already having all these warnings pop up on the dashboard for repairs etc, and had few hours of sleep from midterms. If I did for sure see something I would have left a note, but I just panicked once I saw a few cars coming up behind me and exited the garage.
Ok… you’re probably not going to go to jail for scraping someone’s car lol.
So there aren’t any marks on your car correct? I’m guessing that IF you scraped another car, there weren’t any marks either. And like you said, it’s likely that it was just the stopper.
Chill out on this buddy. There would be evidence on your car if you scraped hers, and you would have felt it. I’m concerned about your level of anxiety about this, though. Are you obsessing about it? I only ask because my son has OCD and your post sounds like something he would say.
