I’m not attending school for myself I feel like the only reason that I am here is because of what my family wants but they don’t care if I drop out but I feel like I’m disappointing them. I don’t feel anything anymore, I’m in art classes for my major but I don’t enjoy it. I don’t want to continue in a cycle of work. I want to disappear, buy a car and travel the world without any problems. I don’t want to be here.

Well, there’s always Powerball tickets.
Wait… your parents don’t care if you drop out, but if you do drop out, you’ll be disappointing them?
Pretty sure one of your premises is incorrect.
Get therapy to help you work through these feelings. Stick with your classes until the end of the semester (being out a lot of money won’t make you or your parents feel better), and then forge your new path. If that doesn’t turn out as exciting as you hoped, then at least you’ll have some credits under your belt with which to continue college.
You need to see a good counselor. Your feelings aren’t about your parents or college but something more. You might want to have a full physical workup too. You’ll feel a lot better once you start addressing your feelings with a professional. Good luck.
@Groundwork2022 I agree 100%. College is not the path or everyone and some people just need to get into a better frame of mind before continuing. You do need a back up plan for how you will support yourself while you are on the road traveling. You need to eat, gas money and hotel expenses. You actually sound like you may be suffering from depression so absolutely get into therapy and get a plan. Most find out that it’s not as easy to survive without an education or specialized training as it appears. Wishing you the best.
There are few things you can do. 1. Go see a physician to make sure you are healthy. 2. Get an appointment with college mental health office, to eliminate depression. 3. Take a semester abroad. 4. Re-evaluate your interest in your current major. 4. Join a gym. 5. Join some fun student clubs or organizations. 6. If affordable consider transferring to another college.
Dropping out would have long term negative consequences so if nothing else helps then may be you can take a semester off to work and explore your options.
Whatever you do, discuss it with your parents first. Even if you don’t want their advice, no harm in listening to it.
Do it. Drop out, travel the world. Become a blogger/vlogger, travel ranch hand, etc. Plenty of ways to make a living without a college degree. You only live once. You can always go back to school later if/when there is something of interest you want to study.
Jeepers, finish the semester first. The world will still be there at the end of May.
Wise advice.
I am a non traditional student, 40 yrs old. Long story short, 12 hours, 11 yr old daughter with very rare spinal disease, has sever pain, and a MAJOR surgery is about to accrue. She has psych appointments and I do weekly, she has PT
I have 8 weeks left and I feel like giving up. At this point I return homework less then my best and my tests, well my professors would be furious if I throw in the towel because they have been so gracious to me
I am going to school this morning but my mind and body is screaming not to.
Please give me some encouragement
It may be beneficial to request a medical withdrawal. Counseling helps, but sometimes withdrawing until your mental and physical health is the best option. Take care of your health first.
I am 30+ your senior but if I look in the mirror of my young self, I see you.
Life has been a struggle, I get passed on many promotions because I don’t have that piece of paper that says I have a college degree.
You are young, perhaps it would be in your best interest to finish your current year and then take the summer to discover what you love and go back to college and aim for a degree in that.
Good Luck!
