according to an article about such forums/chat rooms as CC in the ny times today, (front page, bottom left hand corner), stanford has the meanest rejection letter out there. im really curious, so is anyone willing to wave that white flag of defeat out there? if only to prepare some of the rest of us for what may be coming.

Dear Devonie,

I write to notify you that we are, regrettably, unable to offer you admission to Stanford University for fall 2006. I appreciate the thought and effort you put into your application and into selecting Stanford as one of your college choices. The overall strength of our applicant pool and relatively small size of our freshman class means that we disappoint the majority of our applicants each year. I am personally sorry to share this disappointment with you.

More detailed information about our decision, as well as the answers to the most commonly asked questions about the admission process at Stanford, will be enclosed in the letter you will receive in the coming days.

With all best wishes to you for a very bright future,

Richard H. Shaw
Dean of Admission and Financial Aid

ouch...at least my harvard rejection said they were "very sorry"...bahstards..

The MIT rejection was really nice. I have a friend who got a rejection letter that was two lines long. Ouch.

I disagree... I'll quote myself:

"I think this Stanford rejection letter just topped Northwestern for being the "best rejection letter." Harvard's was the worst as it was plain black and white without any sort of color and used diction that I felt let me down the least gently. That letter was very... EWW. Columbia's wait list letter actually had color, so even if it was a rejection, it'd top Harvard's digusting letter. Yale's was short and concise, but also boring with very little flavor.... yet it was still worded better than Harvard's, so it is in second last. I don't know what it was about Northwestern's rejection letter, but I felt rather calmed by it after my initial surprise of a rejection. But Stanford's rejection letter tops them all."

uhh.. i dont think the stanford one was bad o_O a rejection is a rejection.. regardless of all the bs they put in the lines following "sorry"..

idk.. it kind of burns... but hopefully that's not the one i'll be getting next year... yet hope is slim
