I dropped out of college!

“This is my chance to see the outside world and figure out what my own voice is whispering to me.”

I highly doubt that this guy/girl is even remotely interested in any form of learning curriculum now that he/she is no longer in school.

I’m going to have to assume that this person is interested in…

 1. Travel
 2. Drug experimentation
 3. Isolation from the world

Where did OP drop out from? What is OP doing now etc… Who, What, When, Where, Why? I personally would never drop out of college and find myself interested in why others do.

I wouldnt ask him about all of that … I find it weird. Like stalkerish / no friends irl weird.

"I’m going to have to assume that this person is interested in…

The question is how he would fund the above activities.

My “exploration” plan consists of my exploring two fields: one within the humanities, and one that is also technical and creative.

I’ve already begun my list of books that I consider to be crucial for my intellectual development. Besides containing quite a few of the Great Books and the novels and poetry I’ve always been meaning to read, that list also has a bunch of technical titles (suggested by the experts of their field).

I live in a big city rich with culture, so I’ll have a wealth of activites that will supplement my studies.

As far as my finances go, I’m in the same spot as I was for the past 4 years: my caring aunt, who travels most of the time, allows me to live in her apartment so that I can take care of her pets and plants. I also do a good deal of her paperwork, for which she provides me with enough money to feed myself. I have enough saved up from past part-time jobs to cover extra expenses for about six months. But I am planning to get whatever job in the nearest future.

My parents aren’t a big factor in this. One will be content as long as I’m doing something that makes me happy, and the other will probably be happy that “his or her” contributions to my college tuition, which dwindled and have become irregular, will now become unnecessary.

My situation is unique in several ways, so it’s not a ready-made form for anyone here… And as I said in my initial post, I am planning to go back to college. I didn’t call this thread “I’m taking a semester off” because I expect my break to be a little longer than that.

See folks you can do productive things without being in college. I might take a semester or two off to join the USAF Reserve.

Sounds like a good plan. Thanks for taking the time to share the details.

Do a Co-Op. You’ll earn good money, get an experience of the real world, figure out if that’s the job for you, get your foot in the door with a company, and still stay in college. That’s a wiser choice for your future than just dropping out.
