I failed all AP exams. What happens if I don't self report them?

Title says it all. I am so worried that I will not get into college.

I don’t understand. Why not report the ones you want to report, and not report the others, and then wherever you end up going you send them the scores if they are good enough to get AP credit?

Because I don’t have good scores.

If your class appears on your transcript as AP, I’d recommend reporting your score, particularly if you scored a 3+. Withholding scores may cause the AO to assume that:
• Financial hardship prevented you from taking the exam
• You were not motivated enough to take the exam
• You took the exam and performed poorly (1 or 2)
The first one will not affect your application; the last 2 may raise an eyebrow. AO’s can, and have, contacted GC’s to explain why there are no AP scores reported on the application.

I did very poorly that I don’t want to self report them… I got 1s… am I not gonna get into any college? Im not gonna self report them…

Don’t self report then.

Don’t report them and don’t worry about what schools might think. They won’t think anything. Your grade for the entire class counts for much more than what happened on a single test day.

If you got 1’s, than definitely don’t report them.

Don’t report your 1’s. Like others said earlier, colleges will probably assume you did poorly, but they won’t know how poorly. Some students withhold 3’s, because they believe that a 3 is a horrid score. Of course, if you submit 2’s, colleges will realize that the ones you didn’t submit are 1’s, so if possible withhold on your 2’s, so the colleges have to guess.

You will get in, don’t be so hard on yourself. If you got 3s, report them. If less, just report nothing. They aren’t that important overall.

You should be concerned about your high school’s preparation for college, especially if you got A grades in those AP courses.

Just don’t report them. Its not required. Agree with ucbalumnus that it raises questions about the AP prep you are getting if many of your class-mates also failed or if you got an A or B in the class and didn’t get at least a 3.

I know it is competly optional. However, I heard colleges become skeptical if I don’t self report them. Can I just leave them blank? What are they going to think?

Last bump.

Is it a big deal? Depends on how competitive a school you are looking at. The most competitive may or may not think much of it. But will you get into college? Yes. I would imagine at least half the schools won’t even care that you report no score. Don’t worry so much.

I for one dont think low AP scores mean grade inflation if you got an A. The test is on XY and Z. If your class taught you X and part of Z, along with A and B…did you learn less, or just not the test stuff. Some schools teach less to the test.

AP scores don’t usually have a big effect on admissions. However, they are often correlated to grades in AP classes to check for rigor vs. grade inflation.

In what subjects did you get poor scores (1’s or 2’s)? Were these exams all for subjects which you studied in AP classes, or did you self study? If the former, did other students with comparable grades in those classes do poorly or well?

Your scores raise potential questions about your preparation and curricular rigor. Not reporting them may also raise questions. All this has been previously noted above.

@kasdjfaskdfj “am I not gonna get into any college?”

You’ll get into college. if you took multiple APs then some colleges will be very interested in having you. There are 4,500 undergraduate institutions in the US (including Community College) and you should easily get into about 4,000 of them.

If you have 1s in multiple APs then the top schools are out but there are lots of people do very well graduating from schools that aren’t household names.

If you did well in the course (As) then it’s kind of scary that your scores are so low. It would be a strong indicator that those courses weren’t teaching the material properly.

Everyone has already told you - don’t self report the scores.
