Ok...to start this off I have a 2.9 GPA and am a senior in High School. My extracurricular activities are robotics, theatre, and quizbowl. I have a 1720 on my SAT (640 CR, 540 M, 520 W) and am retaking them to hopefully bring up my math and writing so I might have a 1800+. I'm in AP Chem (one of the few offered in my school) and am doing OK (C). I really REALLY want to go to Temple University for Biochemistry. Do I even stand a chance at getting in there? Or anywhere for that matter...At this point I'm afraid I'll have to do a semester at Comm. College of Philly beforehand...Please help
Thank you in advance,

Retaking your SAT won’t make up for your already terrible GPA.

IS that g.p.a weighted or unweighted? I guess you can get it up to a 3.2 and try for state universities? There are a lot of small privates that have really high acceptance rates, you can most likely try those as well.

You’re GPA isn’t terrible. Join more clubs and do more extra curriculars. If you are religiously affiliated, teach an RE class. Thats what I did.

You can apply but I think your SAT is average for Temple.

If your SATs are high enough, adcoms might see your GPA as your school’s subjective way of grading, which might be harsher than most schools out there. What is your current standing in terms of grade rank?

Ok

First of all, You have not screwed up your chances of getting in Anywhere. In fact, there are MANY good colleges that will accept students with your credentials.

You should talk to your GC to develop a list of target schools for you. In addition, (not instead of talking to your GC), there are several search sites out there that can help you start a list. Here’s one:

[College Search - College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_search/)

Finally, It is almost November, and applications are generally due Dec. 31, so you should start working on this ASAP.

Thanks for your advice guys. Some extra info that’s my unweighted GPA, my weighted is a 3.2. my class standing is 24/98. Thanks again

24th highest?

If so, your grades will seem better to admissions officers as they will understand that you are in the top 25%.

Hi i would actually copy the same statement of dreamsofleaving that i have screwed up my chances of going to a college.I am a student from Pakistan so i did not do high school but i did my A levels (that is 13 years).I was amongst the top 10 percent students of my school till grade 11(part of the student council, part of almost every activity outside my classroom) but later i moved away from parents for a better standard of education and i did so so in my grade 12 like 1A,2Bs and 1C .Unfortunately due to my family pressurizing me into getting married in grade 12 ,completely ruined my gpa of the final year and i am now probably not even amongst the top 50 students of my new school :(!i am working on my SAT for now and my top choice is Barnard. Can anyone tell me that how can i make to my dream school:(i am veryy upset i was planning to apply early but my SAT did not go well(it was my first attempt)

UPDATE: I have since received offers of admission from: Thiel, Robert Morris, Ohio, Harrisburg, Washington & Jefferson, California University of Pennsylvania, and Penn State. My strategy was to apply to a lot of schools (Thanks to free applications) and have so far been accepted everywhere that has reviewed me :). Now I just need to hear back from Drexel, Temple, and LaSalle. I also might apply to USciences Philadelphia.
