Whenever I get a bad grade on a quiz, assignment, or test, I feel I'm not worthy enough to face the professor anymore.

I know this is pretty much the opposite reaction of most people. Most people, if they start doing poorly in a class, would promptly see the professor for more help, extra tutoring lessons, etc. However, I get into a stage where I can't even make eye contact with the professor in the classroom or contribute to the discussion. My main thought is, *Since I'm clearly not one of the smarter people in the class, contributing will only make me seem lame and fake. *

Any helpful advice? -___- I tell myself everyone makes mistakes, but ... I demand a lot from myself...

In my experience, if they’re doing poorly in a class and go to see the professor it’s for grade grubbing. In all the classes I’ve TAed I’ve hardly ever had a student that started out poorly and then started attending TA sessions or asking myself or the professor for help during office hours. Generally, the students that do these things from the beginning do well. Some will stop attending the TA session and continue to do fine (rarely do I see people attend office hours at the start of a term, do well, stop halfway, and have decline in their performance).

I’d say just get over your fear of talking with them. The sooner in the semester you ask for help the better off you’ll be. If you wait until right before an exam to ask for assistance, the professor/TA will probably not want to since it’s likely you’ve been behind for quite a while and have a lot of material you need to catch up on.

That’s how I always feel. I usually have to force myself to suck it up, look over the test/paper, and ask for clarification on anything I’m confused about. The important thing to remember is that grades aren’t personal (99.9% of the time) and the teacher does want you to succeed.

I only feel that way when it’s a professor that I actually like or think views me as a quality student. Then I feel like I disappointed them or something (even though they probably don’t care).

I have the same problem and have no idea what to do about it. Sighs.

But really, the only thing preventing you from speaking to your professor is pride. Just grit your teeth, feel the twisting shame or whatever, and get over it. We’ve all been there, after all.
