When asking a professor for a chance to turn your grade around what is the right way?

So at the start of this semester (week 3-6) I dropped the ball. My own stupidity combined with poor time management skills led me to fall behind on some homework and score low on a test. While there is still a margin for me to pass it’s slim (I have to average 79.7 on all the remaining assignments) I think I’ll need some help as the class is stupidly hard for me for whatever reason (it’s stats). I want to ask the professor because he seems like a good guy but how should I approach it?

I think you need to figure out what exactly you want to ask for. Look back at your work so far and identify where the issues are in your comprehension or skill. That will show that you are proactive towards improvement. Then find out what resources your college has. Is there a tutoring center? Are their TAs? Are there flyers around offering peer help? If you’ve exhausted these, you should ask prof for a resource and/or direct help.

Professors like it when kids who are struggling come in for extra help. Just go to his office hours and ask for help on the concepts you are struggling with.
