Here are my grades:

IB Bio SL: 71.57
IB Math SL: 72.88
AP World Lit: 78.63
IB World Religions: 80.77
IB Spanish: 87.56

It's not like I did well freshman year and my grades are dropping because my classes are getting harder. I just don't have the motivation, my depression is coming back, making things worse. Before I dreamed of going to a prestigious college, but now I know that's not going to happen. Combine my academics with my lack of success in my EC's, my social concerns, and other stuff, I just feel like a failure.

I'm sorry if I'm breaking any rules, but I just needed to vent a little.

I definitely wouldn’t consider you a failure. You’re taking difficult classes and battling depression, which can be so hard to get through. Maybe you won’t get into HYPS, but that doesn’t mean you won’t end up successful. Talk to your guidance counselor. Maybe they can help you find motivation.

What is prestige? It’s merely a meaningless term given to schools whose bumper stickers look good slapped on the back of your Mom’s Subaru - so maybe you won’t get into Harvard, most of us won’t, but that certainly doesn’t make you a failure. IB classes are incredibly challenging, and the fact that you’re maintaining C’s and B’s in them (which, author’s note - are very, very respectable grades) is not something to merely dismiss as nothing.

Those are some hard courses, and I’m feeling the same way right now, I’m debating whether I should do my AP Chemistry homework or not because I feel like crap in that class lol. You should talk with your teachers and see if they can help you, trust me it helps–a ton. I went to my old Honors Chemistry teacher and my current AP Chemistry teacher for help once and just talked to them. I’ve talked to my AP Biology teacher about doing better on tests, I’ve talked with my Latin teacher for extra translation practice. Communication is really important and a skill students should know. Venting is great, say whatever you need to say. But it does get better, just put in the work and the results you want should come out.
