Not exactly. They can only fully fund 30 people with EFC's of 20 grand. And they are trying to fully fund all those admitted, so you have to be something special to be of those admitted. However, they said they will also admit you and not give you aid or give you partial aid, but they'd prefer not to. lol

That still seems rather ambiguous. This talk of trying and preference seems to obscure what their policy is. Clearly, they can't fully fund 200 people with the funds for 30 no matter how hard they "try". I wish they'd be upfront about the exact influence of finnancial situations on admission.

ugh. why did I bother? ;-; Now I feel absolutely hopeless.

Well all 200 people won't have 20 grand in need.

It's completely ambiguous. And it's driving me crazy.

I am tempted to write them, telling them I'd still like to go even if they can't offer me any aid.

That's a good idea.

That's a good idea.
It's a double edged sword. They didn't offer aid before, which sucked, but at least they were need blind. Now they offer aid, but they aren't need blind, which hurts you chances of admissions. I almost wonder if I should have not applied for aid. It's like, which is worse, chance of rejection, or no chance of aid?

All I can do is sigh. My anxious anticipation has been transformed into dismal defeatism.

mine is obsession and panic. can't get it off my mind!!

What's your EFC? Mine's about 18000

I have put the onus for the FAFSA crap on my mom. So, consequently, I do not even know what EFC means, then alone know my score. Clearly it's an indicator of finanncial need, but I have no idea what mine is.

estimated family contribution. tuition - efc = need

Okay so apparently, according to Brown's system, my EFC is somewhere between 20000 and 25000 (cheapos)

Not that it matters for sure, as i'm considering withdrawing my application for finaid

dont you think it's too late at this point?

i think by now they've already made a decision.
and plus I don't know if it actually matters that much..

to me, (this is just my opinion) it seems like they're saying..
we're going to try to come up with a package for you if you're worthy if getting in and if it's a huge, overbearing problem we will reject you.

but first thing's first, you have to be worthy of getting in and then the financial factor has to be a HUGE, overbearing problem...and i mean..i dont know, i think you have a good chance. and I guess I have faith that Brown is a good institution that'll put in every effort to take care of someone with that much interest.

best of luck.

Here's how it works: there's very very little money for transferrs. if they can't fund you, they reject you. finaid isn't considered until the very end of hte process, and responses don't come out for almost a month so i don't think they've made their decisions at all

Hi, I just got into Brown (told over phone, early notification), I'm one of the financial aid kids...

flips out

What??? Early notification? Congrats!

My dog was accepted!!!!!!

Calipharius: Yes, they agreed to let me know early because of my work-study..I was offered a job in the bursar's office at my school, but under the condition that I would be here next year..and the Bursar wanted to know where I'd be going before school got out (understandably). So, yeah. :D I went through that whole process and was told over the phone about...an hour ago. Sweet.

IN ANY CASE. Thanks for your congrats!!

Noodleman, you must be very proud of your dog. Congratulations to him/her/it.

ahh! that's awesome. man. i want some early notification. i'm DYING. I got into vassar though. but brown, oh, my one and only love
