does anyone else think their transfer acceptance rate will go down DRASTICALLY this year?

I have no idea: I applied to neither.

Good luck, though! Hopefully it's not true -- or it is, and you'll get in. ;)

Again... as I said in the other thread... when I went to a tour/info session at Brown, they told me point-blank that they offered no financial aid whatsoever to transfer students. I'm surprised that so many people can afford to transfer to such an expensive school without any aid. I think that's why their acceptance rate is so high-- few can actually attend, even if accepted.

So, Brown offers no loans?
.....wierd......

I could apply to both to make you look better :)

Hey red,
I applied to tufts as a transfer student from lafayette college (a top 30 liberal arts school). I have a decently good gpa and amazing everything else. Will me coming from a good school hold any weight to begin with? How accepting is tufts with transfer students?

It totally helps to come from a good school. I transferred from Columbia with a 3.3 and got into Harvard, Duke, Dartmouth, and Brown.

Girlygirl
well supposedly Tufts is extremely transfer friendly but if ALOT of people apply...(which im assuming they are just from this discussion there's like a million)...rates are probably going down.

I guess it helps to come from a good school...but then again, you'd have to have an even stronger reason to want to be at Tufts.

good luck.
hope you get in, hope i do too...

slipper how are you paying for it all? And have you heard anything about changes in finaid for transfers?

ClaySoul, I'm assuming you know all of this already, but just in case...
they have $400,000 set aside for transfer grants. So uhm...I don't expect getting much more than $5000 from Brown (if I'm lucky! - and my EFC is only $7000!) if they have to split that up between 70-130 people (assuming only around half of those who matriculate will need aid). The rest we have to get from state grants & loans, scholarships, & our own pockets (or our mommies'. whichever works best). I've heard that amount (the 400K) will increase each year though! And I'm sure Work-Study will be open to us....

so assuming i have 22 grand in need, how much of that would get met? Less 8000 in work study, perkins, and stafford, of course.

Is it a guaruntee to meet your need, but only let in a few people with need thing, or a meet some of your need and let in more people with need thing?

All admission is need-blind. So I really have no idea how they are going to pull any of this off. O.o

No, for transfer students it is not need blind. It's need aware

Are you sure its 400,000? That's absolutely nothing. Split between 130 people, that's only 3000 each.

Yes, I'm sure it's 400,000, it's been posted here several times...here is a link, check it out

and I was unaware that transfer admission was need-aware. Where did you get that information? The finaid website states that Brown is simply need-blind. I don't know how it COULD be need-aware, seeing how they didn't offer aid before this year.

Wow, that's discouraging. Just what we need, another factor to worry about precluding us from getting in. Sweet.

Yeah, i know. now i'm worried. Though, I did call and the fin aid officer i talked to said some people will get admitted and recieve no aid, while others will. But they are going to try to only accept as many transfers as they can fully fund...which, with average need, is about 30. Booyah.

Wait clay, I'm not certain I follow. You're saying they will select only 30 of the 200 students from those who need finnancial aid ? I sure I hope my understanding is wide of the mark.
