Ok so in my sophomore year I was in a relatively easy Spanish 3 honors class. The class was super fun and came really easy for me. The whole year I probably maintained a 98-100 the whole time.
However, when Junior year came along, I decided to take Spanish 4 AP with the impression that I would have the same teacher. Boy was I wrong. My new teacher was very strict with her teaching and my class was filled with fluent speakers. It was so hard to keep up and my grade plummeted down to a B as a result.
After a few weeks of being in the class, I decided to drop it otherwise it would have ruined my GPA. I transferred into a Student Aide class that doesn’t account into my GPA but I’m scared I made the wrong decision.
It might just be my anxiety, but I feel like this decision shows undedication and laziness. I truly worked hard in the class but still couldn’t get an A in the class.
I still love Spanish and am in Spanish Honor Society but I’m scared I screwed myself over…
Where are you planning to apply for college? There are some that require or recommend 4 years of FL. If you aren’t applying to any of those schools it won’t matter. Even those that only recommend 4 years, you can still get accepted if you have less as long of the rest of your application is good.
So you are now a junior? My D21 was in the same boat-- basically required to skip a prereq Spanish course and ended up in over her head. She hasn’t and can’t drop it but she is starting private tutoring to try and fill her spanish gaps. Perhaps you could consider this now or during the summer and then take another shot at AP Spanish senior year? The teacher is everything— true for all subjects-- and kids can really get hosed by going from an easy teacher to a hard one, and it’s not like you get to choose. Either way this is not a life-defining choice and you can relax a bit.
