D+ in AP Spanish Language and Culture

Hello everyone, I’m new here and I’m hoping I’m posting in the right place. A little background info about me: I am a senior in high school, I’m in 2 AP classes, 2 honors, and one regular, and all from freshman through junior year, I got all As and Bs, with nothing below a B-. My senior year has academically been rocky. Currently, I have an A+ in English B- in AP Euro, D+ in AP Spanish, C in Honors Pre- Calc, and a B+ in honors PLTW IED. The biggest reason I think my grades are rocky was the fact that I was in AP Chemistry and dropped, just in a knick of time too so it won’t be put on my transcript. I was focusing all my time and effort into that class that I did not leave enough time in my other classes, plus I was getting a D and not doing that well.

As for Spanish, I am not that good at it. I struggle a lot with the speaking and reading sections and most of the practice tests we have done I’ve gotten 2s with an occasional 3 here and there. Every time we have some sort of test in that class it frustrates me because I know my grade is going to drop. We just wrote an argumentative essay this past week and my teacher gave me a 2 on it which she puts in as a 10/20 in the gradebook. Also, I had this same teacher in Spanish 1 and 2 and always got a B and when I got a different teacher for Spanish 3, I got an A, so I don’t know.

Now my teacher did say for our final if any of the sections are higher than our previous tests, they will get replaced in the grade book, but I feel like it won’t make a difference since I keep getting 2s.

Anyway, what are your thoughts? Should I switch to Spanish 4 dual credit after the end of the first semester or stay? Any insight is appreciated and sorry for the long post. Thanks!

Switch to dual credit 4.
D’s and Fs are radioactive to colleges so staying may jeopardize any college admissions you have.
If you’re not aiming for economics/business, you might want to switch to precalculus regular.
What colleges did you apply to?

I have already applied to Iowa State and Iowa and have gotten in. I have also applied to Purdue (not counting on this one), Bradley University, University of Illinois Chicago, and MSOE. I am going to either major in chemical or manufacturing engineering.

Bradley will likely request midyear grades.
Iowa and Iowa State can rescind for a D or an F.
Better safe than sorry.

What is the progression in your Spanish classes? Did you go from Spanish 3 to AP?

I’m just curious really, because dropping to 4 would not be an option in our HS as Spanish 4 is a pre-requisite to AP Spanish. All our Spanish 4 classes are dual credit to begin with, though, but they are not weighted.

Groundwork2022, yes, I went from Spanish 3 to AP. My Spanish 3 teacher said that she thought that I could do AP and my older brother who also took AP Spanish encouraged me also.

The only problem is that it is too late in the semester to switch, and I would have to wait until 2nd semester. Also, I was really frustrated because we had a class discussion on Tuesday that I prepared very well for and participated decently and my teacher did not take it for a grade -_-

It has been a month since I have posted, and luckily I was able to get my grade up all the way to a C+. I ended up doing well on a retake which replaced some of my grades, and so did the final, so things did not turn out as nearly bad as I thought it would.

Good job!

nice!
