I feel like I'm fooling myself.

uchicago2018: So you’re saying if you try really hard, you won’t get anywhere? I’ve never disagreed with anyone more.

Rule #87
Never take a comment that was clearly not serious, seriously.

Niquii77: That wasn’t serious? Oh wow…

Hey now.
If you really aren’t going to drop any classes and the highest youve gotten on a test is a C you really ought to reconsider.
But the actual question is how many APs are offered at your school? Like if only 12 are offered then you can always take 3 this year 5 junior year and 4 senior. You are still taking them all just without the ridiculous amount of stress.
Wanting to be the best is good but sometimes you have to think about what makes YOU happy. If you plan on going to an ivy league then ECs also matter a lot. You can’t just get good grades and get in.
Balance.
Be balanced.

@sirrius, I’ve gotten a 100 and a 94…and the C was on a quiz. And we just started school this week…

Hey, calm down. I’m a senior and I’m taking 5 AP classes. Bad weeks happen; they just do. Take everything in stride and keep moving forward - it makes no sense to dwell in the past. Don’t be afraid to ask your teachers for help, that’s what they’re there for.

For the record, this week, I’ve failed an AP Physics quiz, got an 85 on an English quiz, and found out a bunch of other bad news that I’d rather not talk about. Just take it easy and really, stop stressing.

Hey Alex, fellow 2015er here. You’ll be fine, it’s your first time taking APs, just do research on dbqs and frqs. Furthermore, most teachers try to scare and weed out kids by giving them lots of hard suff the first month. I had 40 PBS of notes from AP world the first day.

Stop studying, start sleeping and paying attention to the world around you. Unless you’ve never read a newspaper, you can common sense your way through APES and Human Geo without opening your book. I’d guess exhaustion is screwing you up on tests.

And 30 minutes a day is a lot of work for one class, at least by my standards.

And I actually agree with UChicago2018 that “tryhards” can never be #1. If you pursue grades alone, take classes you don’t give a @#$% about to bump your GPA, and sacrifice the entirety of your social life to your GPA, you won’t do as well as someone who is passionate about learning, insanely smart, and doesn’t care about their rank. They’ll win, and they’ll be happier all along. Better motivations lead to better results, passion for knowledge is a better motivation than mindless ambition.

And if you sacrifice extracurriculars for GPA, no class ranking will get you in to college.

I’m not going to explain myself again, you clearly didn’t read my other post ^

Honestly, Ap classes are more about related the material to real life and understanding why something happens unlike any other classes you have had before. That means that you can study all you want but if your not studying the right way it won’t make a difference. This is coming from a sophomore taking 5 Ap’s. In previous classes you were fine to just memorize the material but now you really have to go in depth. I was talking to the Ap psychology teacher at my school and he even said, he doesn’t recommend sophomores taking the class because their brains aren’t as developed and most of the time they are incapable of the critical thinking required for the class. From reading your responses I think it is quite obvious that you will not sacrifice an Ap class but what if you switched Ap classes? My schedule right now is Ap calculus, Ap chemistry, Ap macroeconomics, Ap computer science and APES. These classes aren’t as hard for me because there is only one RIGHT answer so it is not so open ended. Maybe you could switch into Ap macro (which is super easy) or Ap music theory because they don’t require that more advanced thinking like all the classes you are in right now.

If youre guaranteed all As. Whats the point of this thread? You just said you think that youll pass with flying colors, so why are you arguing with people about whether youll soar or sink. Though if you’ve already admitted that you’re struggling, than I dont believe you’ll get As without a doubt. Its gonna take a lot of work, and if the classes are hard to keep a hold of, your GPA will be hard to keep a hold of. You took a large course load, so dont throw.up if your Class Rank takes a large drop. Do what you have to do to get where you want to go. Everyone here is right. You can make it, but you can also fail. If youre not number one, then who cares? There world stops for no one person. So you need to find a way to spin with the world.

I refuse to let myself fail no matter what. But I need to change the way I study or view the material in order to do that. Just wondering “does it get better?” “do you adjust?” “does everyone go through this?” or will it be like this all year.

@tennischick: My school doesn’t offer AP macro,AP comp science or AP music theory :frowning: and we have a gazillion prereqs for things so that you cannot take most APs until junior/senior year. I’m actually not supposed to be in APES or Stats but got special permission.

I’ve come to a conclusion that it was just nerves. I am doing well in the class (erm, except trig) , I didn’t want it to seem like I was utterly failing. But I’m definitely working harder, I will not fail. I’m not going to drop a class, it is only the first week and I honestly love all the classes I signed up for subject wise.

Thanks for the responses. End of thread

Good luck!! I think it’s great that you’re taking a lot of APs, but don’t forget to have fun too!!! I really want to take AP Statistics in 10th grade, but the prereqs are geometry and algebra 2. In 10th grade, I would be in algebra 2, so I won’t be able to take it. Can you give me some advice on what you did to convince your school to let you take AP Stat? :D

Well at my school we are on block schedule so first semester is algebra2/trig and I’ll take stats second semester. However at my school they want people to have pre calc before stats. I emailed the principle and he looked over my past grades in math, talked to the stats teacher and said I would be okay if I pass algebra 2/trig with a B or above.

And I won’t forget to have fun!!! :)

^Okay!! Thanks!!! My school has block scheduling, but for us it’s year round. Basically, both 1st and 2nd semester are no different. Yeah, I’ll definitely talk to my school about going into AP Stat. The thing is, I wouldn’t have finished the prereqs. Thanks for the advice!!! Good luck!! :)
